I met this difficult thought about a character who like to talk vague, hope some native or high level >N1 Japanese learner could explain what did this mean in this context.
Story: Main character (一刀) is the Master, talking with one of his female generals/subordinates 星 (this story took place during 3kingdom era in china). One day protagonist saw his subordinate 星 are talking with a cat. But when he come closer, the cat ran away. Therefore his subordinate 星 blamed him for having disturbed her conversation with that cat. The protagonist is very curious ,and start asking questions to 星 like how she could talk to cats, what did she discussed with that cat earlier...
His subordinate 星 keep speaking vaguely and doesn't tell him the answers.
一刀「あんな所で、猫と……話？」
星「あれで意外と話題も豊富。腹を割って話してみれば、なかなか楽しい相手でございますぞ」
猫相手に腹を割って話すって……あぐらを掻いた猫が一升瓶片手とか、ワケのわかんない絵が出て来たんだが……。
一刀「何だかなぁ……そんな技、どこで覚えたの」
大陸中を旅してた星のこと、中国四千年……この時代だと、もう少し短いか……の秘術の一つや二つ、身に付けていてもおかしくはないけどさ。
星「ふふ。女というものは、秘密をまとってこそ美しく輝けるというもの。余計なことを聞くのは、それこそ野暮というものですぞ」
猫と話が出来るっていうのは、少々どころの秘密じゃないような気がするんだが……気のせいか？
星「気のせいでしょう」
一刀「……」
いや、何というかさ。冗談に聞こえないもんな。星の場合
今も人の考え読んでるし。
星「というわけで、私と猫殿の歓談を邪魔した主には、代わりの話し相手になっていただこうか」
一刀「それはいいけど……猫と、何をそんなに熱心に話してたわけ？」
星「……」
なんか黙秘されてるんですけど！ホントに語り合ってたんだろうな！ 趙子龍！(*趙子龍 is another name of 星 character)
一刀「……それも秘密？」
星「女というものは……」
一刀「……野暮ってもんか」
星「左様。主はやれば出来るのですから、その辺りの機微ももう少し読めるよう精進なさいませ」
一刀「うむむ。ま、まあ、善処するよ」
その難易度で言えば、星はトップクラスだと思うんだけど。
愛紗たちは何だかんだで墓穴掘るけど、星はその辺ホントにノーヒントでやってくるんだもんなぁ。
