Hi all,
Just watched Collage of our Life. Starring Hirosue Ryoko, Matsuda Ryuhei and directed by Tsutsumi Yukihiko, Collage is the story about an amatuer photographer Makoto (Matsuda) whom falls in love with Shiziru (Hirosue). Their love comes to a grinding halt after Shiziru takes an interest in photography in order to share Makoto's world with him, but begins to surpass his talent. Three years later, Makoto hears news that Shiziru was killed in New York City, contrary to what a letter he received from her saying all was well. He goes to New York city in search of the truth, and in search of the love he cast aside due to foolish Pride.
Overall the movie is very well done with some very imaginitive shots mixed in with a study of the average New Yorker. The acting for the most part, is pretty strong, although sometimes, some of the American cast is a bit off the wall. There's plenty of English spoken by Matsuda which was a huge surprise. The plot holds together until about 30 min before the film is about to end making no sense with what we had just seen up to that point, and taking on an almost over the top pshycotic like quality which didn't fit the story at all. Luckily, as that scene ends, the film goes back on track and ends very strongly. One of the final scenes is very touching, and in my mind, will go down as one of the best filmed scenes ever.
I enjoyed this movie, personally. Since I used to live in New Jersey and spent a lot of time in NYC, it was a trip home for me.
