Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (or Green Destiny like it is called in Japan) was an excellant movie. Very well produced and Chow Yut Fat is an awesome actor.

I thought that Zhang Ziyi was also very good. Now there is sexy lady with some serious skill.

i made my boyfriend (RedxShadow) take me to see it...when i told people what i ws going to see they're like "blah war movie".,...truthfully..i forgot it was a war movie, if it was...the last samurai was beautifully done and the plotlinewas one of the best i've seen in a long time....

Well, I really like it. But it wasn't really like it was in the real history right? I read somewhere that Samurai where people of honor, but they weren't as loyal the sword and the lord as they where in the movie. A lot of the samurai used gunpowder and modern weapons and a lot of the samurai didn't serve the lord that well. This is only what I read, is it true?

This was mainly based off of the true history of "The Last Samurai"
Some parts were not real like the American joining the group, and such along those lines, but it is very close to what truely happend.
During this time period, gunpowder was used alot.
Even the rebelion used guns, but not by much.
And of course the men of japan didn't listen to the lords well....remember during this time the Lords power=was gone.
The group of Takamori Saigo's respected Takamori Saigo because they went by the old ways.
The "Emperor" was said to be "Godly" but only really to Takamori and his people. The "new" japan used the Emperor. Remember western influences was going on during this time.
But, it is true Takamori Saigo did use guns and gun powder, but also used traditional Katana's and old armor. So the movie isn't 100% correct, but close.

There are great paintings showing Takamori Saigo's last stand and such, and the way he dies is different in a way from the movie, but it isn't far off.

Another diffrence is Takamori Saigo was a chubby man.
He wasn't fit like in the movie.
But, the movie was the closest to the real event.

So to put this: Takamori Saigo in my humble opinion was a true warrior and truely carries the tittle "The Last Samurai".

I got it for my birthday. I must admit, I was very skeptical. I normally don't like Tom Cruise(only liked him in Eyes Wide Shut), but I thought he pulled it off brilliantly. Really, I do think he was good. He was nowhere near Ken Watanabe, but he was good. By the way, Tom Cruise is supposed to be such a heartthrob? I don't think so. Him beside Ken Watanabe. No contest.

Anyway, it was a really good movie. If my husband(who usually hates movies) liked this film, I know there has to be something special about it. He was actually in awe. I couldn't believe it.

I loved the scene where they're walking in the snow with the snowflakes falling down. Just a beautiful shot, that was.

My fav. had to be the Ninja sneak attack.

ninja attack was much better than you would usually see so called 'ninja's' in movies. yes yes, good.
I thought the "I need a bath" comment was good, but funny/stupid that it was misenterpreted by the american colonel. and yes the "can I call you bob" busyness was funny too.

Good movie. Nice sentimental ending. I really liked the closing narration along the lines of "I'd like to think, perhaps he finally found some small measure of happiness that we all seek but few of us rarely find..."

For the hardcore fans out there - you can still visit the set here in NZ. Some family that owns the farm where it was filmed maintains part of the set and gives tours. Same goes for the Lord of the Rings set.

Really loved this movie, although I hate Tom and his big grin, I have to admit, he pulled it of nicely in this movie. Of course, this wasn't because he's such a great actor, but the movie was already great in the first place.

As for a replacement leading character, how about Hugo Weaving? you know, Elrond from LOTR, Agent Smith in the Matrix, he's from V for Vendetta too. Quite a stunning actor, if I may say so! How about it?

euhm no, it's was better if Kevin Costner did the movie, because i really liked him in Dances with Wolves
