Hi I have a problem with my XP Pro Japanese input. Most of the time it works fine and I can choose Hiragana, Half/Full Width, Alphanumeric, etc.
But sometimes (like now) it doesn't give me the option and it just says "Caps" and "Kana" toggles next to the language selection. Any ideas as to how to get it to go back to normal?
This is a screenshot of what it looks like:
Congratulations! You can finally use the IME for Japanese.窶忸窶堙?窶猫窶ーテェ窶堙?津ェ窶堋ウ窶堋「窶堙懌?堋キ

Thank you very much
On my computer, whenever I switch to Japanese via Shift + Alt, the default input mode is "Direct Input". So, everytime I want to type in Japanese, I must move my mouse over to the language bar and change "direct input" to "hiragana."
Is there any nifty keyboard shortcut that will do that for me?
Dang that doesn't work for me. You using Vista perchance? So, without further ado, here it is: to switch between "Direct Input" and "Hiragana" while in "JP" press "ALT+~" (or I guess you could look at it as "ALT+`," considering that's what the non-SHIFT function of the key is).
If you talking about English keyboard on a Windows PC with Japanese IME, you'll be able to convert them by typing their names in romaji (correctly). Can you type "ツ?。ツ?督≫┐ツ?エ" on an english keyboard?

It was originally a girl thing, I guess. But it has become so common, guys use them, too.epigene、ありがとうとございます。That's exactly what I meant. はい、ひらがなが読めます。 Wow, there are a lot of symbols on that page!
What's the deal with ☆★○●♪ etc.? Do people arbitrary substitute them for 。 and ・? Is it a girl thing? Do Japanese dudes use them?
I myself have never used symbols like ツ?エツ≫┐ツ?。 nor cellphone pictograms in my emails, except some emoticons. It was originally a girl thing, I guess. But it has become so common, guys use them, too.
However, I think use is not has extensively as among women and only in emails and posts of very casual nature.
What say you, Ashikaga-san, Toritoribe-san and other Japanese "male" members??
Have you tried Glenn's suggestion in Post#59?Hi!
I have a little problem, maybe someone here can help?
When I open Notepad, change the language to Japanese, and start to type, the characters still remain latin letters. I have to open up the Language Bar, open the Soft Keyboard and insert a few letters, and only after that do my computer convert what I type to kana! It's pretty annoying that every time I open a new program not only I have to change the language but I also have to open the Language Bar and "type" with my mouse before I can actually type in Japanese. Why is that? And more importantly: how can I change it? :?
Oh! Thank you, it works!Have you tried Glenn's suggestion in Post#59?
There are some free fonts in the linked page below.hello, I have a question about japanese fonts other than the fonts that are originally installed with the IME.
I have had the japanese ime for years now and everything works fine. But i'm doing some design work now, and I'm interested in finding/downloading some different fonts for the japanese character set, and I can't seem to find anything like this around. If I search for Japanese fonts I just end up getting fonts that apply to the english character set, but each key produces a randomly assigned hiragana character.
Is it possible to find fonts anywhere that are true fonts that are just applied to the Japanese IME character set (so you can type romaji as you normally would, but the japanese appears in the new font)
I'm not sure how the IME works under the covers so I'm not sure if they have anything like this or if I would have to actually be using the Japanese version of XP to get something like this... any help would be appreciated though!
Thanks
