Both 風 and 風邪 seem to be pronounced the same which is かぜ.

Do we have to depend on the context again for the actual meaning?

However their pronunciations are the same which is かぜ.
So how can one tell which is which when they hear かぜ in a conversation.
Does it depend on the context again?
They wouldn't know whether you are talking about wind or a cold, would they?

Heck, the English word "cold" has this same problem. It's not terribly inconvenient, is it? 😉

I know that. But I've just wanted to be sure if my understanding is correct. Japanese language seems to have more than an unfair share of depending on the context though.

Ironic that this particular post has a lot that's dependent on context. Both "that" and "my understanding" depends on the context of this conversation. English has it's fair share of things that depend on context.

Thanks a lot. I respect that. I just wanted to ask to be sure. Perhaps sometimes I'm over-anxious.
Thanks for all your help!
