I tried alcohol once, I think that was in 1977. Didn't like the taste of the stuff and haven't touched a drop since. Maybe it's me, but I just don't see the attraction people have for the stuff.

I guess I qualify for the latter as I'm a firm believer in that old saying:

Alcohol is Escapism in a Bottle, for some people. For others, it's something very enjoyable and pleasant, hey you might like cigars, but I might enjoy Cognac or whatever.
It's kinda funny that many Americans see booze as still a vaguely sinful affair - restricting people from drinking it til 21 - and don't really introduce kids to it like Europeans do, in a safe and controlled way. I mean, if you've had a little diluted wine with dinner since you were 13, then its hardly a big explosion of freedom to be able to buy a beer from a bar, etc. I think it's healthier that drinking should be a normal part of life, something you might sometimes do with friends at lunch, or at dinner. Maybe the shadow of the Puritans is longer than we might think - i mean hard liquor is still banned in some states, right?
Whereas handguns, semi automatic and automatic weapons are all over the place. look in any toy store and you'll see a huge variety of plastic weapons, making boys feel comfortable with instruments of death. Add to that the violence content of TV and films, and it has me scratching my head. Alcohol = bad, Weapons of Minor Destruction = good?


PS final dig: US beer is piss-weak. i mean, really you have to admit it. sip on any fine ale from germany, belgium, uk or australia (not fosters, only tourists drink that) and you'll taste the difference.

Indeed, I agree. This is one of the things why so many of my friends and I say, "Another country is our best bet."
Atleast thier actually "thinking" instead of just breezeing through "simple" things.

Yeah?! Well I`m 24 and half, and people think I look 16! I used to use it to my advantage and get child discount into places and child bus fare etc. But then I discovered I couldn`t get into Pubs and Clubs, so I spent alot of money to get a passport to prove my age. LOL (^_~)

I think that is a healthy attitude Occaisionally, someone will ask me if I grew up somewhere in the southern US, since I still have a bit of the accent.

I tell them that, "I spent my childhood and teen years in Texas." In the interest of honest disclosure, I hesitate to use the phrase "grew up".

Yay, finally someone who gets this too! I'm 21 but everyone thinks I'm 15-17. Once, an old lady asked me in the metro "Have you had your 13th birthday yet?" I don't mind, though, this is a lot better than looking 80! ^-^; I get carded every time I go to a clubs or bars, so ID is a must... I get child discount etc, too, which is definitely a good thing if you're a poor student like me ^-^
