How high are your standards?

Doc, I don't think you have to decide yet if you are going to be alone forever! You have plenty of time for anything to happen!

You get this when you drink too much. I think they are called beer goggles? :? :D
Mines a pint of vodka :gulp:

Apparently there are 'levels' of beer goggles-ness;

There could be someone who isn't totally unattractive, but some drinks are required -
This is a '5-pinter'. I guess there are variations depending on your tolerence.
I drink red wine these days - so maybe I get 'wine goggles'!

There is also a 'beer scooter' or 'beer shoes'. These modes of transport are used to explain when you have somehow managed to get home, but cannot remember how. You got home on your beer scooter. I read them in 'Viz'

So that's how it happens! Thank you - you have cleared up one of life's little mysteries for me... :-)

You've missed the Beer Jacket. It enables you to get home in the middle of winter wearing only a shirt without feeling the cold

Excellent. I forgot that one. Hopefully I'll be wearing mine tonight!

With my currents options and options for what job I want in the future, I think it'd be best to stay single and alone. It would prevent any relationship from falling apart with my future choices in life.

Thanks. ^___^ Seriously though having a job where you work over 90 hour weeks and sleep in your office is good enough reason not to have a relationship. I'd be surprised if it would last more than a week in that sort of condition. Oh well, I'm happy with who I am and what I want to do in the future so that's good enough for me. ^___^

That very close to my idea of a fulfilling, satisfying life. Not even high standard; just basic call of nature.

You find working like crazy a satisfying life? ☝ Well I guess if you're doing something you like, like what I'm going to do but still. Hmm, well I do know that I'll be able to retire early if I get the job I want. 🙂

Good for you; and my answer would be fill 'er up, 'cause life is short. :-)

In the words of Foamy the Squirrel, "Give me money! Money! Money, money! Uh, uh, uhuhuh, yeah!" :D Life is short, that's why you have to make sure you get to do the things you want, or you have just wasted your life away.

The kind of career you're going to have can be a factor of deciding weather you want to have a relationship or not. Unless you're like one of those people who want it all, a wonderful career where you can take long vacations with pay! And at the same time be in this wonderful relationship and have no worries at all! :-) But I'm someone who is realistic about things like this, and unless I want a career with wonderful pay I have to give a few things in life.

Well you see in the gaming industry you have to work about 18 months at a time, and if you're lucky a month long vacation, but most likely not. Making video games is more important to me than a relationship, but as I said before that's me.

You're interested in the Gaming Industry, well that's lovely. 👍

I think I figured out who you were Doc. But I can't help but understand why people have such negative feelings towards love, I even have many doubts about relationships. Which is why I started this thread in the first place, my standards seem high to the point in which most guys I run into can't live up to those standards. I mean goodness what's wrong with having ambition? It's like, they have no purpose in life, they're all like "Well, I'm happy where I am." To me that's saying I'm happy being an aimless nucklehead. They have no desire to better themselves as human beings, and that is a huge turnoff for me.

Yes, but having high ambitions such as control in a relationship or being a perfectionist on who your ideal partner will be is also bad. To me that's a huge turn off. Personally I just want somebody who will accept me for me. That's probably the number one priority on my list. Sure intelligence, independence, noncontrolling, faithful, etc are on my list, but accepting me for me is probably my biggest priority. Unfortunately there are too many females out there who don't accept me for me because I'm either too weird, or I am physically unattractive to them. They judge me before they even know me. I mean we're all guilty of judging people, but the only time I ever really do it is when there are people who never learn from their mistakes. Those people to me have no ambition, and mostly likely lack the proper common sense intelliect. That's about it; other than that I just can't place myself to judge somebody like they do me. It's just not fair.

Thanks for that little quiz, Brooker. I'm quite picky so I scored 50%. Well, I'm not as picky as I thought. :p

I think I set higher standards for myself than I do for the other person. But having said that, there are two or three basic things I expect them to - not measure up to, but see eye to eye with me on. If we can agree on certain principles, I can put up with a lot.

I am definitely not picky about career or ambitions. Not that I necessarily would get on with someone who has no interest to better themself... but it would depend on the situation. For me, happiness is certainly more important than career. I mean, I work in order to get money to enjoy myself. But, I can well understand if someone loves their career for its own sake. So, it doesn't really matter to me. But sometimes people can lose their sense of proportion over the career, and work too long hours all the time just because they are worrying about it, not because they enjoy it. But, if I'm in a relationship I am really not bothered about such thing. I don't like for a guy to be all nervous that his job or prospects aren't good enough. It's him I am interested in, not his job.

High standards... you all seem to claim it`s just like something infallible and, thus, adamant...

you think that in 100 % of a cases the soulmates are like two lego pieces - fitting each other perfectly? Most of the times growing into each other its a hard work... what if you standards will be no more than a bunch of coloured spears which you poped out to defend... what?
Two hedgehogs with their quills upright hardly make perfect couple, nor does the one

High standards... are respect, patience, tolerance and responsibility is among standards for yourself?

There is a story about guy who at the fall gathered many wonderful, ripe apples, one to one without any flaw. He preserved them carefully in his storehouse. In a week he came to check them and saw the one got a bit rotten, so, he ate it. In a few day again he ate slightly rotten apple to keep others from spoiling. Next day - the same. So, although he had a pile of nice and perfect apples at the harvest time the whole year man was eating rotten apples :D

This is so true! I think the reason a lot of relationships fail is because people are unwilling to get a balance between accepting someone as they are and compromising when they are not as you would wish!

It is refreshing to see someone who understands this. So many people marry a doctor or something, and then wonder why they are never at home! Well, duh!
