Does anyone here have high standards about the opposite sex? Do you feel that if you meet someon and they don't have a certain amount of money, or they have to have a certian amount of education? Or it doesn't even have to be materialistic, what about a code of ethics?

I'm told my standards are way too high, and I don't think so. 😭 So, I guess it's better to ask, have you ever been critizied for wanting more out of the opposite sex?

My standards are so high I will remain alone for the rest of my life (seriously).

I don't have high standards, but you better be cute, cuz I'm hot stuff! And hopefully not smarter than me, cuz I'm smart stuff too. ;)

Hey, that's how my future's looking. 😭

Well the good thing is it's not your typical superficial crap that a lot of men usually want though. The major things I look for in a woman are stuff like intelligence, faithfulness, compatibility, easy going, fun loving, independent, etc. I will admit I'm a picky guy, but I think it's mostly because of my past that's caused me to be that way.

Let's say that you are super-super picky, Doc.
Let's say that you are so picky that the probability of your finding one gal that can pass all the 9,000 qualification tests is close to zero, but still an infinitesimally small positive number 0< p <1. Let us further postulate that the pobability is in the area of one in a million females, ie. 1/10^6 = 0.000001. I'm a bit fuzzy on the world population, but let's say it is in the order of 8 billion.
Now half of those would be 4 billion.

The expectancy figure of females that can pass your hyper-strict standard would come to...

4,000,000,000 x 1 / 10^6 = 4,000

All you have to do is pick one to your liking out of 4,000; that is, if you are willing. :D

Too bad that's 4,000 out of 8,000,000,000, or 1 out of 2 million (lexico's statistics; I think actual world population is more like 6.5 billion).

Anyway, my standards are too high. They're probably close to the one out of two million that we get from lexico's numbers, so there isn't much of a chance that I'll meet my ideal woman. That only leaves two possibilities that I can think of. One is to settle for less than I want; the other is to not, and be alone with my thoughts for the rest of my existence. I'm not sure which is worse yet (and I'll grant that I won't necessarily be alone, at least not in the absolute sense).

:D
before raising your standarts high think will you be able to match them yourself, after answering this question consider will you be able to match other people high standards
:D

My standards are so high that only one person on Earth meets them - my husband! I am deadly serious on that. I believe in soul mates, and not a day goes by that I don't realise how lucky I am to have met mine. 😊

I think my standards are too high.

I'd rather take my chances being a lonely virgin for the rest of my life than dealing with those odds. Besides if I ever did hook up with someone, they'd probably use me for everything I had so what's the point? Meh, I don't need a relationship to validate my existance on this mortal coil. If anybody else does, then I feel sorry for you. Really I do. BTW the population is about 6 billion not 8 billion Lexiboy. ;-)

Oh you depress me sometimes, Doc. 😊 Anyway, I have this belief that if anyone just settles for anything that comes along they're probably having self-esteem issues. This is could be one of the reasons why people stay in rotten relationships, it's like they're clenching to straws. Sad individuals who have no self confidence whatsoever. So, the best for them to feel better about themselves is being in a relationship period. Disregarding how they are being treated.

How do I make you depressed? What you're talking about is people who validate themselves with relationships. I don't think you can't get any lower than that if you're one of those people. It's rather sad if you think about it.

When you said that you would rather die a lonely virgin than deal with those odds that lexico posted, but I would guess you're much happier than those people who are in horrible relationships but have not intention of leaving them. I have some friends that are like that. :(

Don't worry. My standards for myself are nearly impossibly high. :p

Being picky is a good thing.. and I much rather have high standards than low standards.. of course if someone who is "low standard" looks for people who are "high standard" they better get back in the minor leagues... if you know what I'm saying.

edit: I just notice someone said basically the same thing... oh well, it's a club.

I must admit to having a high standard. For me she must be intelligent, good and weird sense of humour with an independent mind. Mind you I could go with Rich303s sentiments :D

Yes, but ideally they should be moderate standards. Balance is almost everything in life.

Yeah I know it's sad, and I will admit it is kind of depressing at times being lonely, but you know what? I much rather live for myself than for somebody else. It may sound selfish, but given my past I think I'm entitled to this standpoint. Sorry to hear that your friends prefer to stay in crappy relationships. Maybe they should hear Foamy's rant on those type of relationships. Could make them change their mind you never know. ;-)

I heard a qoute from Dr. Phil McGraw and the quote was "If have be alone, I'm not a bad person to spend it with." So, of course there's a plus side to this. You're choosing to spend your life by yourself Doc, which is alot more than what I can say for most people. Yeah, I'll tell my friends that they don't have spend their lives being in bad relationships, and I'm sure Foamy will get through to them. Maybe that's what the problem, people seem to this need to be with someone no matter what the consequences are. Even though they're being treated like pure crap.

Exactly. Which makes me wonder why people cheat on one another so much. Then I got to thinking, it's probably because people think they have to HAVE the attention and everything 24/7 in a relationship, good or bad, just to validate themselves in life. It's kind of retarded if you ask me, but then again I'm just a loner who doesn't care much for relationships in the first place. :(

You get this when you drink too much. I think they are called beer goggles? :? :D
Mines a pint of vodka :gulp:

This reminds me of a line from "Starsky and Hutch" (with Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson, not the original series):

Hutch: "Alright, which one do you want? Now choose carefully, 'cause we're going to stick to this."
Starsky: "Well, I've always had a thing for blondes."
Hutch: "Good, 'cause I'll take anything."

Disclaimer: I'm going from memory, so I may be a little off, but I'm pretty certain that I've captured the sentiment, and I know I got the last line right (the one I was thinking of in the first place).
