How do you like your horror?

Right right! Agree ! I have also noticed, that the more like humans the monsters are, the scarier. Ghosts are scary, and also monsters - but only when they look like semi-humans... I mean, Godzilla isnt really scary.
But take the Alien 4 (Return of Alien?) anyways, the last movie. It isnt really a horror movie, but has its nasty parts. And the aliens themselves arent really scary, but in the end, when this ******-up alien/human is born, I mean, it looks like an alien, but also has human features such as flesh-colored skin...
THAT last human-alien is SCARY! sooo dusguisting! That I dont like. As for the normal aliens that look like reptiles, I dont care much...
Humans are scary...

But I have a question: Can this girl blink now that she has this "stuff" on her eyelids???

I find this kind of video more scary than films with a lot of blood that I like a lot, they make me laugh!!!

And I'm also a huge fan of Zombie, it was so funny even for the 14-year girl that I was when I saw it!!!!

Accurate observation, Isayhello!
Why is it that horror is scariest when they look human?
Is it because that makes it easier for us to relate to 'them'?
Or is it because there's a chance that we can turn into one just as easily?
 
I don't know if horror has to have a human or human-like face to it...most likely that there are other more horrifying things that can be imagined, but the film media just can't create it in a convincing way just yet...
what scares people most varies from person to person...but one constant seems to be true, and that is people fear the unknown or unknowable the most (if they have any fears at all). What sends one person into shrieking fits of fear will make another person laugh. but that's just my take on it....this is why I don't think you can limit it to having a human face to it.....
 
About the human fright... I guess, as you said, lexico, because we can relate to the things that are us alike... So hard to explain, but if you´ve seen Alien 4, you know what I´m talking about, cause that skin-colored alien is just nasty!

Den4: It also depends on HOW you watch the movie. You said some things can send a person into shrieking fits, while it makes others laugh... well, this depends on the surroudings when you watch the certain movie. I think, some things scare the hell out of me sometimes, but some other time - I can just laugh at it.
Imagine watching RING, alone in a big house in the middle of the night. I´m pretty sure you´re gonna take the movie pretty darn seriously, and become scared. (At least a little freaked...) BUT : If you watch RING with a bunch of (drunk) friends on a thursday afternoon, and you guys sit around and joke about it, I swear you could make the RING movie just as much fun as American Pie...
So scary things can become silly things, depending on HOW you see them...
 
Yes, I believe you have just explained it from a different angle but basically restated what I wrote
My point is basically people aren't always afraid of people. Some folks are afraid of spiders. Others of heights. What made the movie Copycat particularly suspenseful is that the main character was afraid of open spaces, and that phobia contributed to the suspense of the movie, because of the psycho killer on the loose after her. Yes, it may not be horror in the true sense (and yes humans are involved), but true horror (or terror) does come from fear, and people that have phobias tend to have an additional handicap that "normal" folks may find laughable...it's the stuff that nightmares are made of...
I guess what makes horror movies appealing to so many people is that they can have an artificially created sense of fear, mostly with a supernatural flair (unlike the suspense movies), so that they know that once the credits roll, they can go back to their normal lives of the mundane...and live to tell about it....
 

My case was watching RING all alone in the middle of the night , only in a small house...

And I do agree the surrounding environment matters. Infact a little off topic, the day I watched RING , I have been listening to the back Street Boys song "Show me the meaning". Now whenever I listen to it again , the RING memories just keep coming ...

just to proove how bad of a choice this song was :

I like The Shining - thats a good horrormovie!

And no one can resist Battle Royale, only thats not a horror movie, but still, that movie is the BEST!

I dunno....being locked up in a room and tied to a chair and forced to watch old reruns of Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood or them old Lawrence Welk shows are also likely candidates for true horror, too....
 
I like horror films, and mostly I enjoy watching psychological horror, as opposed to bloody gore...some of them can also be "enjoyable" to watch, I admit. (e.g. Suicide club etc..). However, my favororites are psychological horror (e.g. Psycho, Sixth Sense) and horror films with shock effects like (Ringu and Dark Water).
 
Eyes! Eyes scare the hell out of me! I mean think about them... Their so fragile, and if somebody wanted to poke them out, you'd see it coming... And breaking peoples ankles like in the film Misery...

But it definiatly depends on what scares you.

Seriously I prefer psychological horror like Ring. The film actually gave me goosebumps near the end. Horror films haven't done that to me for abot 20 years. Audition was creepy too, especially the torture scene. Makes Fatal attraction seem like Bambi. Do like a bit of gore occasionally, but the film better be good, like Battle Royale (I know its not Horror) or 28 Days later.

Den4 what. Where did you find this piece of scarily fascinating 'thing'?

"Saw" was pretty scary and twisted.
A lot of people say that "Ring" is scary, but I only jumped once at the end.
 
The scariest film I've ever seen is the Japanese "Ring". I had nightmares for about two months. It was just traumatising! The American version is nothing compared to the original.
The "Omen 2" and "Omen 3" are scary...It all depends on the person. Maybe I'm easy to terrify.
 
My proffesor told me the japanese folk story and reason for the story that the ring is from. it was scary... she said that it's based on a true story.

Oh and that eye stuff is scary. Other than that you guys should see my attempt at Home made Jallepino Nacho Cheeze, it was a disaster. I left in in the slow cooker too long and now it looks more like chilli than cheeze. All brown and lumpy... now thats scary.
