I would like to know how the members of this forum became interested in Japanese pop music and how you discovered it. When I look around various music store I do not see anything by Japanese artists. You get all your mainstream bands, but the only Japanese music you really see is either Taiko Drumming or traditional music. All the J-pop bands that are mentioned have to be searched for via the net or by specialality shops. It is not just in the UK that you seem not not get J-pop in music stores. I have been around the US and Canada and various European countries and they all really cater for mainstream US or European bands. It wasn't until I came to this forum that I had heard of Gackt or Miyavi etc..

To answer you're question, anime pretty much did it for me.

And, just for the hell of it, don't forget the piano music 😌

.... believe it or not.... Chinese rock...
i saw this film, Bajing Rocks? and... i fell inlove with the sound track.
onday i was bored so i decided to scope the net to see if i could find any chinese rock band titles i could try and download.... nyada...
sop i figgerend... hey, i love Japan, what the hey....
found this small site that listed about 6 bands?
DoAs infinity
Bordoms
X japan
B's
Loudness
and... this other band i can't for the life of me rember what they were called 😌

but yes... that is my story ^.^

ofcause, it wasn't untill i found Maxiie that i REALLY started to know about Jrock... i owe that girl a LOT, lol.

It's called a typo...Jeez...And, ummm...Is "boredoms" even a word...? :?

Actually, no it isn't. I just looked it up. That's kind of amusing...

hey....... no fair, not my fault i'm dyslexic!

..... what's a hetin? or... um... a heathen rather 😌

atheist...... isn't that someone who believes in God?
....or.... dosen't believe in God......

yes its someone who doesnt believe in god
a friend of mine allways calls people heathen if they dont know a band which he is talking about

(or something like that)

ah..... ok....
yeah... i think my friend uses it as an insult or something.....
don;t really see how that works..... but then... don;t really see how most of my insults work either.... they usually make people laugh 😌

sorry.... i didn't mean to get their name wrong..... but i've aonly just lean't how to spell 'notice' so.... what do you expect? 😌

Heathen is an insult because 'God' forbid that some people don't believe in the Mighty Lord! In other words, apparently it's bad to not be Catholic or Christian

...... o....k.....
well.... yeah, you shouldn;t get me started on religious issues.... i could go on for a loooooooooong time.......

I think in the context of bands, if someone gets some knowledge wrong, and you say 'heathen!', it kind of means 'you've gone against the religion!', like, say the band is a religion and they're a heathen coz they said something that's not true about them. So, a joke in that kind of way. aaaaaaaaaaah! I'm getting tangled up trying to explain, not sure I made any sense there!

Another way, I might say 'heretic!' as in 'you blasphemed against the holy name of Boredoms!' (or whatever the band was). I don't think any religious thing is meant, lol :-)

-blinks- I know that. I was just merely stating why "heathen" is actually an insult. If it's actually another, insulting word for "Atheist".

let's back to the main question... so i started to listen j-rock because my friends made me to do that - most of them are j-rock fans and they just couldn't stand the fact i'm not :-)
of course at very beggining i didn't like it because singing in japanese sounded for me weird and wasn't catchy at all, but after some time i accustomed to that language and started to enjoy this music :-)

The way most j-rockers look, I love their styles of dress. It's so unique. Then I started to listen to j-rock music. It's helping me learn japanese, too! :p I think j-rock is beginning to make it's way into the West, slowly but surely.

NO! I mean, yes! No~~...It CAN'T! Then all the preppies and jocks will like it and no...-shakes head rapidly-

YES! this is true....
it's why i'm kinda sceptic to get new people into it... i don;t want jrock to be..... 'cool'
i know it's harsh and all... and... i should let people like it if they like it but..... o god to hear my stepbrother and his townie friends talking about jrock.... it would be painfull >.<

I was a real japan freak, and I was really into the j-rock looks some time ago. Then I by coincidense rediscovered it and started downloading some Diru, cos it's the easiest thing to find.
It took a bit time to get used to, you have to be willing to get into it. But once I understood it (and not as in understanding japanese, because I still don't) I could suddenly feel what was so beautiful about it.
And I just got hooked. Real bad this time.

I'm not so sure if I like the idea of j-rock getting into the western world.

'Like what they like'...? o.0 How many preppies/jocks do YOU know that 'like what they like'? They all like what every other populat person likes! NO personality, originality, et cetera! Remember?

Besides, I don't think it's EVER going to happen here. People are too caught up with "Caucasians rule the wor-No! The UNIVERSE!". Plus, they'd all think they were "fags" and heaven forbid they listen to a bunch of "gay" people...No, scratch that. "Gay" MEN

Why not dear? I think it's interesting. I've always asked when Eastern culture would swing back our way. 😊

i think we all like j-rock because it's something different to western music
and that's why i don't want my fave bands go west
