Hi! I'm Noel Sutter from San Francisco, USA, but I spend a bit of time in the Southwest in Indian Reservation country. I've had a tea business for 7 years now blending an herb the Native Americans use for longevity. These days I'm thinking of starting an operation in Singapore or Japan.
I guess that's all I'll say for now.
I'd love to talk tea and the prospects of bringing a new line of teas into Japan with anyone who's game.

I haven't sold tea in Texas. I have in New Mexico though.
A couple days ago I went to Japantown in San Fran and a tea guy there told me that the Japanese would resist buying green tea if it was blended with anything (like this great native american herb I have ...it tastes good)!
Do you think that's true?

If you were to blend your herb with green tea I think you would have to choose a new name for the tea, especially if the taste deviated from what a Japanese customer would expect when they read "Green Tea" on the box. Also, your consideration of what tastes good could be miles away from what others do; you must use a more sophisticated vocabulary to describe the flavor of your tea for those who are not able to taste it themselves. This could depend on what this other herb is, and what kind of personality it brings to the tea. Of course, nothing beats experimentation and focus groups for trying out new products.

Do you ever give out samples? I tend to think that if packaging and marketing angles are right, you could get a small market for it here in Japan, but only at certain locations--not just anywhere.

I did visit Japan last summer for a month and had a chance to try a wide variety of teas and even visit a tea shop and partake in a traditional tea ceremony. I'm certainly not an expert on tea, but my expertise lies more in the creation and marketing of a brand identity, and the steps necessary towards making a successful product

I'd like to tell you and mars my product 'story.' Maybe later tonight. Now I'm off to paint my sister's house and eat a huge prime rib dinner (that's american ... 'super size' (!) but I love prime rib sometimes.
