I also can't reconstruct why EXACTLY "doushite" means "why".
"dou-shite" would mean something like "how do" to my understanding. I can't make much more of it because I can't load "te-form" with a proper semantic to accentuate the meaning of "suru" in the right direction.^^

I could've looked it up in the dictionary right away but I wanted to make sure that it isn't something else than what I find there. So, is it this?

I can't make sense of the "doushitara".
I only know "ta-form + ra" as a marker for a conditional clause.
So this would be "dou + suru in ta-form with -ra suffix". I don't know a word "doushitara" like "doushite" which means "why".

You don't have any problem with こうしたらおいしい水が作れます "If/When I do like this/in this way, I can make tasty water", right? "An interrogative + たら、～（か）？" is the question version of it.
e.g.(ungrammatical, but for your understanding the structure)
こうしたらあなたに連絡がつきます。
If/When I do it in this way, I can get in touch with you.
どうしたらあなたに連絡がつきますか。
If/When I do it in what way(=how), can I get in touch with you? --> How can I get in touch with you?

Until now, I mostly have learnt about "wo" in transitive contexts.
Therefore, I would intuitively translate:
"Please research wether a stamp is necessary when you check in with a card."
In this translation, I kept the intransitive semantics in my opinion, but I had to use the preposition "with".
I just don't know wether that's the correct interpretation for this use of "wo" for the verb "moushikomu".

The object of that exercise is to take the TWO sentences separated by a dot and join them into one sentence, isn't it?

The problem is that I can't write the kanji.
When I'm writing hiragana or katakana, im using online tools but I couldn't really figure out how to make them convert the writings into kanji.
If you don't mind the lack of kanji, I can of course type the sentence. To be honest this is actually more convenient for me than scanning and uploading the file.

This sentence means "I want to propose to my girlfriend." right?
The solution told me these are the particles to be inserted. I somehow have difficulties with the "ni" for the girlfriend as the direct object. It happens often, like with "au" (to meet so.), but in thise case there was no example next to the vocabulary in my book, so I kind of was irritated that "ni" is used. Usually the book tells me with the vocabulary when a particle asks for a particle thats "contraintuitive" to the western learner xD ("wo" is introduced for the direct object and later on of course expanded. But overall the book assumes that the average roman-language-native speaker has problems with this ^^)

And "my girlfriend" is not the direct object of "to propose" even in the English sentence "I want to propose to my girlfriend.", either.
