Hello everyone!

My name is Miko (I'm a boy :p), 25 years old, 3rd generation Japanese-American. Unfortunately, I don't speak a lick of Japanese! Well I didn't up until a year ago when I started to gain an interest in where my grandparents came from :)

I do speak fluent English and French and am currently studying at Harvard University for my masters in International Relations. Any MA residents in here? :D Anyway, I'm happy to be here and hope to solidify my Japanese in the years to come with all your help and vice versa!

Welcome aboard fellow New Englander !

I'm just up the road from you in Maine. Half my family and relatives are in Mass. though. You should find lots of good info here on JREF to help you.

Hey there!
Welcome! :)
I'm sure this forum will be really helpful!

I once knew a 3rd generation American-Japanese guy, too.
He came here to Japan to be an English teacher. He couldn't speak Japanese at all although he obviously looked Japanese, so many people thought he must be Chinese or something.

When we went somewhere together, Japanese people got REALLY confused.
Why?
Because naturally they turned to him and talked to him only, ingoring me (the foreigner).
He couldn't understand a word, so I answered in fluent Japanese.
You should have seen their faces! *LOL* ....
Oh, Japan! *g*

Thanks for the kind salutations, everyone :)

LOL That's a hilarious story, zoomingjapan! It has definitely happened to me with fluent ethnically non-Japanese friends as well!

Hope to learn more and get to know you all!
