Sounds pretty selfish. You want others to remain ignorant for your own benefit?The other reason why I am against it is because I speak Japanese and English. I feel I am in a strong position because of it. If more people are able to speak Japanese I get more competition which is NOT GOOD for me.

It's selfish to want a government's policies to follow your own personal wants. Laws are for the good of the country, not just a small selection of people, and if a language requirement would be beneficial overall, it shouldn't matter that you're afraid of a bit of competition. And if you are afraid of competition, find another way to stay on top.It is not selfish to have advantages over others in work and business. Everyone wants to have an advantage. Is it selfish to study harder to be better than anyone else? Ofcource not. You sound like a communist.

Centrajapan's original sentence is actually grammatically "perfectly" stated in a casual, conversational setting. I was giving him a hard time about the way it was portrayed here. When inserted to standard puncuation, the cadence becomes familiar. It is as if the beginner were crying out "Kanji is soooo hard it makes my head ache ! Difficult !I think he might have been trying to say something like 漢字は頭が痛いほど難しい,
just going by the word order he used.
OK, guys, keep the Japanese in the Japanese language part of the forum, please.
I think the problem is that it is off topic as this topic is not about how to say that "Kanji hurts your head".How it is possible to divide debates about Japan from Japanese language?

Oh, no question. In writing something like this looks much neater.Yeah, but see, that's what makes it incorrect. I, too, can see how that might be said in conversation, but we have no way of knowing if the OP of that sentence does unless he clarifies himself. Even if he give him the benefit of a doubt, it is still a terrible sentence, especially for written Japanese, wouldn't you agree?
Actually, I disagree that centrajapan's original sentence (from another thread entirely) was correct. If anything were to be done differently, I think jumping on the use of Japanese in the English forum earlier would be the best candidate!
