Hi,
When it comes to Japan, some of the biggest complaints I've heard from foreigners is that Japanese TV sucks. I'm not going to describe what "suck" means in details because any foreigner living in Japan for a considerable length of time would have already formed an opinion on this. And I didn't want to make a post to ***** about that.
However, I am interested in learning what people define as "good Japanese television," especially if they agree with me that the rest of Japanese TV is trash. From shows, documentaries, dramas, to news, ... anything works. Let me know what you are watching, how you are watching it (TV, youtube, torrent, live stream, etc.), and what do you think is good about it. Also let me know a little bit about you (where you are from, how long have you been in Japan, your Japanese level, etc.) as to compare our opinions.
I've tried to search the forums but there was no full-blown thread on the topic. From google there are a few discussions here and there ("窶堋ｱ窶堋ｱ窶堙坂?｢ﾃ鞘?堋ｾ窶堙ｦ窶愿ｺ窶怒ﾂ人" is supposed to be awesome?).
I'll start...personally I do not find anything good about Japanese television. I've watched about 10 dramas (from start to finish) and the only one I kind of liked was Star no Koe. Japanese animes are usually horrible (even One Piece) but mainly because animes are streched-to-death versions of mangas. Japanese films are kind of bipolar...there are some awesome stuff out there but most mainstream stuff is crap. I haven't had much experience with Japanese documentaries (news are so-so). Japanese TV shows make me vomit. Perhaps I'm not finding good stuff because I don't own a TV (most of my sources are Internet-based)?
