Good documentary films you have seen?

I'm sure you guys have seen many good films you can share. There are several I can name, but I would like to know what's out there that I haven't seen yet.

I much prefer watching documentaries to horror cheezes that make you feel like you just wasted the whole 90 minutes, which happens to me often. I would be happy to hear your reccomendations to improve my taste in movies.

• 7 Up (The UP series) Kind of a biography that follows 13 children from different background in England; they were filmed between the age of 7 to 42. Amazing charactor study.
• Children Underground A film about Romanian children who live in an underground train station. Some parts were hard to watch.
• Stevie By director Steve James who also directed Hoop Dreams; the director closely observes Stevie, whom he once was a mentor for and was reintroduced.
• Slasher About a car salesman who goes to almost going out of business car dealers around the country and helps the dealer by giving crazy prices to customers.
• Born into Brothels A photographer goes to a red light disctrict in India to intract with children who live there by teaching them how to take photographs.

''Dog Town and Z Boys'' is about the original California skateboarders that evolved from surfers.

I've never been a skater, but it was quite interesting.

I just watched a documentary film called A Lion in The House. It's about five families who have children that are dying from cancer. It was very sad, because I remember one of the children had died

I recommend "The Corporation," "Why We Fight," and "Grizzly Man" for starters.

I can't honestly recommend any Michael Moore films; he's tainted goods.

Far from it, but Moore takes things out of context and puts just as much spin on them as the people he detracts; I don't like watching his films because i can never be sure if any of it is the whole truth or something he cleverly edited into making it look that way.

It is clearly edited to make it fit the story he is telling. It is his "truth", his version and vision. I think that the stunts and his point of view are pretty obvious.

like cajoling the bankers into breaking their rules so he could get a gun for opening a bank account in Bowling for Columbine, then editing it to make it look like it's standard practice for them to just hand guns over the counter?

Some of his stunts are not so out in the open. I just don't trust the guy, and I think that after his lies get exposed it hurts the cause more than helps it. But of course, I'm not stopping you from recommending his films, I just said that I can't honestly do the same.

I also recommend another documentary called The Last Abortion Clinic. And another one, called Plastic Disasters. Kind of eye opening, because it reveals the consequences of getting plastic surgery.

Well, this is more a series than a single film, but I've just finished watching The World at War, perhaps THE definitive documentary on the second World War. Produced by the BBC and narrarated by the late Laurence Olivier, it first came out in 1974 and is still the best of its kind anywhere.

"Grizzly Man" reminded me of another very funny film called "Project Grizzly", which is about a guy who builds a suit that weighs 300lbs for the time when he might be confronted by a grizzly bear. He does all kinds of experiment with the suit on, like being hit by a truck, rolling off the cliff, smacked by a tree that's hanging with a rope.
