Global warming...what to do?

Also, since oil and such is such a money maker for the elite corporations and the rich of this planet, I doubt very much we will stop using them which tells me that man is not the cause because, IF MAN WERE THE CAUSE and were indeed changing the climate, the nations of the world would be on a mad scramble to impliment other forms of energy before it destroys the planet. Does anyone see that happening? I don't.

It's happening but in slow pace .

Armand, this article was published as an invited piece in the APS newsletter, a step up from his earlier platform in the newspaper the London Telegraph but hardly a substantive peer reviewed journal. In other words, the APS did not do a scientific evaluation or peer review of the article. Revisions were made based on the editor's review aimed at ensuring readability and clarity for the audience of physicists who were not climatologists.

If Lord Monckton turns out to be right, which I doubt based on previously publicized miscalculations and lack of scientific competence or reasoning, the potential reward is a Nobel Prize.

I hope that this clarifies matters for you.

Just one last point, two articles appear in the forum's July 2008 newsletter. The "pro" case is A Tutorial on the Basic Physics of Climate Change, by David Hafemeister & Peter Schwartz. The "con" case is Climate Sensitivity Reconsidered, by Christopher Monckton. It is the former position that has received an endorsement of the APS.

Thanks for the link Armand V. A few quotes from the story:

Christopher Monckton, who once advised Margaret Thatcher, demonstrates via 30 equations that computer models used by the UN's climate panel (IPCC) were pre-programmed with overstated values for the three variables whose product is ツ"climate sensitivityツ" (temperature increase in response to greenhouse-gas increase), resulting in a 500-2000% overstatement of CO2's effect on temperature in the IPCC's latest climate assessment report, published in 2007.

ツ"Global warmingツ" halted ten years ago, and surface temperature has been falling for seven years;

Mars, Jupiter, Neptune's largest moon, and Pluto warmed at the same time as Earth warmed;

In the past 70 years the Sun was more active than at almost any other time in the past 11,400 years.

Also, if one follows the link to ScienceandPublicyPolicy.org there are additional stories from learned people refuting Al Gore again along with other stories refuting the hysteria that man is the sole cause.

I say again, the media and governments will continue spouting that man is the cause, probably to spur governments into alternate fuels which is good, but look for the continued calling for a "Carbon Tax" by the UN along with other nations that may, or may not, help fund the new alternate fuels.

There are learned and very sophisticated mathematicians all over the internet dubunking this guy as well, such as here: Duae Quartunciae: The APS and global warming: What were they thinking?

It's quite obvious that the overwhelming expertise at this form is concentrated on Japan which means that none of us has the technical background to authoritatively dissect and analyze highly technical climate modeling information.

Debating the wisdom of a tax increase is more plausible, just don't overestimate the impact either way, minimize or dress it up, as a solution for global warming. 😊

Global warming is a hox to get you go out and spend money on things that might cause more bad than good. Those lightbulbs they want you to use if they brake you will have to leave your home and fumigate it. Oh and that crazy Obama wants you to inflate your tires to make the car more gas affent, with no need to drill for gas. The Libs say this so that you think there is a really problem. The Earth is rather cool so what are they complaining about. The Earth will change on its own.

The two examples you use tend to make the subject ridiculous since they are not representative of the solutions in global warming.

It seems the earth is not rather cool . What is more , every temperature anomaly (either cooler or hotter) is still an anomaly.

To some extent, it is true. Periodic cycles of ice ages are most likely caused by the wobble in the earth's axisツ (Milankovitch cycles).

While it is technically true that the Earth has gone through various cycles, saying that this has happened does not in any way disprove that human-exacerbated climate change is occurring.

So who will pay for the harmful effects of global warming? I think all the developed countries should pay for the "pollution" by financially assisting developing countries while reducing the greenhouse gas emissions.

I'm afraid for the future generation they might not experience the true beauty of nature because of global warming.
