I can help you with soda, To my knowledge it is 120 yen per can. Can't help you on bus fare or cigarretes, but my suggestion would be taking the trains as opposed to busses. And you can take the train for under 200 yen most of the time.

Well, soda prices can vary, as well as the size and makeup of the container. You've got their cool weird metal bottle things as well as the typical plastic and aluminum containers. I paid 160 for soda when I was desperate, but also found 500 ml cans for 100 yen. If you're sticking in one area, I suggest finding the best machine...but that's cuz I'm cheap 
Bus and train fare vary on distance. If you're just visiting, get a JR pass as it will cover JR trains, buses, boats, whatever. For the two weeks I was in Kanazawa, living in the boonies, my bus fare was like 800 each way or something like that...and I still had to walk for 20 minutes from my stop to my house. Trains IN tokyo start at around 100 and just go up based on the line and your destination.
Cigs are cheap. I think it was less than 3 bucks a pack.

bus fare in kyoto is 220 yen flat rate inside the city.
I think people are right when they say japan is an expensive place to live, but *certain* things are what kill you... like if you have to commute far and you pay 1500 a day in train fare. going out and drinking is expensive. Movie theatres are very expensive. But if you are frugal, it is possible to live cheaply in japan. ride your bike, cook your own food at home, etc.
