Hello everyone.

First I would like to say as a newcomer it was an unexpected good surprise to me to find such a great forum!

I would have a question about Japanese email inside the company. It is the first time I have to write a mail to a colleague who is the sales manager of the industrial affairs department. He is not my boss (we have both the same boss actually) but he is quite almost two times older than me and I would like to be polite enouth.

Concerning the content of the mail, I have to ask him that I would need him to send me some informations about the expected volume of sales forecast per customers because I cannot fill out my excel file without them.

Here is my rough version of the mail:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

(what kind of introduction?)

If you have the time to answer me, it would me really helpful for me.

Thanks.

(さん also can be correct depending on the ralation between you and the colleague, but if he has a title (e.g. 主任), you should use it.)

When he know you well (he can recognize you just by your name), no need to write introduction. If not, you need to say something like "〇〇課の yourname です。".

Wow! Thanks a lot for all your explanations.

Actually it is quite a little department and everybody knows each other. The fact is I will go to Japan soon but at the moment still in the company's headquarters in Europe. I met both my boss and the sales manager I'm supposed to work with when they came a few weeks before, however it was very informal (the boss used to live in the US once and he is always laughing loudly and gives pat on the back of everybody!).

Anyway, you saved my life!

I see. Then, it might be better to be more friendly/casual.

your name です。
