I have windows XP and my friend sent me some files and it said i cant view them so i was wondering if there was a way to change a "MPGA" file to an MP3 file or a windows media file? If so can someone teach the n00b how to do it? Thanks.

You simply need a filter for Mpga playback, that's it.

Yeah, back in the day, you used to be able to use a programme called properties plus. It would insert itself into windows and then when you brought up the properties of a programme, you could change the extension like jpg, mp3 and so on.

I don't know if it works as well anymore as there are so many types of video and sound files now, it may corrupt them if tried.

lol or you could just rename it to .mp3 and it should work fine.

First make sure that your computer shows the extensions. To do that, click start >> control panel >> folder options. Choose the View Tab, Now uncheck - "Hide extensions of known file types"

Now you can see the extensions, then you know, rename the file.

this only works becuase a .mpga file is a .mp3 file and vice versa. you cant go around switching .wav and .mp3 or .mpeg and .avi it just wont work.

mmmmm,well not truly.A Mpga,is different then a Mp3 by many means.First off compression and data formatting.Mpga is merely a sound file off a video,where as mp3 is just audio stand alone if you will.Renaming does nothing more then rename a file,not convert or change a format.Only the assoication is changed.Tell then adieu
