Dir en grey

XD Were those people really all like: KYO PLEASE SPIT ON MEEE?!!! :|
Whoa.. That's....... Uhhh XD

I'd do the same XD Cleaning XD

Yeah lol. People were being elbowed in the face as the crowd made this huge push over towards kyo and everyone started screaming "kyoo-samaaaa onegaaiiiiii!!!!"

That's just... =S WHOA! XD XD It's pretty disgusting if you think about it... =S XD Begging someone to spit on you XD XD

Yeah I had a moment where I went - my god I'm about to be crushed to death in a mob of people asking - no - begging for a man to spit on them and are ready to claw the person next to them for a chance. And in that moment I think I realized what the expression Rock God meant. I felt as if I had finally touched upon what that feeling of fame and hysteria people are always so desperately trying to create felt like and it was the Real Thing. And I also realized that it felt wonderful.

two days in advance!! thats so early!!!!!! do they just sleep on the sidewalk or something???? ...

i always wondered ... how does he sing after he does the fish hooking thing?? ud think his mouth would be killing him ....

Sleep on the sidewalk? XD No no they just took turns on watch and they were always in a group. lol I take it you've never camped out before? ;)

Well he sang just fine. Plus I don't think pain is a big thing when it comes to Kyo.

ohhh, lol .. iv been camping, but i gues its kinda very different from camping out for a concert ...

ya but thats why i dont get it ... he sings perfectly fine, after cutting his mouth from the inside .. ud think that even if pain isnt a big problem for kyo, that he'd have some reaction?? i dont know .. i dont have a really good pain tolerance ... maybe thats why i dont get it? oh well, it will forever be a mystery to me ..

Well I mean some people DO "camp out" in lines. I've only been in one situation like that and we went out before hand and bought a cheapy tent and pitched in our place and just set up shop. lol

Um well diru asks that people not talk too much about what happens at their shows and while they say its because they want to keep some of the mystery honestly I think its because of things like this. The energy that's going through the place when it finally comes time for him to fish hook, cut or scratch himself is well - absolutely amazing to be honest. And its just one of those things that I can't describe but I'll try. When I said religious experience earlier that honestly is the best thing I can compare it too because there comes a point in a concert (and perhaps you know what I'm talking about) when EVERY ONE is in pain. You're clamped against a hundred other people and you're all slowly suffocating each other and you're only hope for fresh air is to stand high on your feet which are killing you because they've been pounded on by you and the people in front of you. You have the option of fighting your way out and being able to end it all - the pain, the pressure, the heat, the sweat, the blows from other dancers and you *don't*. You just decide to keep on going and the moment that decision is made somehow that pain isn't so bad anymore. That giving up and giving in is the religious experience part of it because it feels to me exactly the same as if you're participating in certain rituals that go on for hours and leave you sweating and in agony but somehow feeling as if you've been shaken to the core and cleansed in that primitive part of the brain.

I think that moment on a dance floor or a concert or whatever where one decides to not fight the pain and discomfort and instead embrace it full hardily is what kyo is also experiencing and expressing on stage and like I said its a strange energy that you may or may not experience. So when things get to that point even if you're low on pain tolerance like I am its just another pain that's going on and somehow its not all that bad. Remember diru started singing is a way of expressing the pain caused by peoples weaknesses ~ and their concerts are the baptismal ceremony into understanding what they mean by that.

lol That sounds crazy fan girlish but I'm trying my best. I've also talked with other people at the FVT that said they experienced the exact same thing so I'm going with what I know as well as what others have told me.

didn't know they asked fans to not talk to much about their concerts ... ud think that if people want to talk, they're going to talk ...

i think i know the feeling ur getting at, it just comes differently to me that ur example of the religious feelings, cause im not really religious ...... for me its when i draw ... i just sit for hours on end, so that my legs and my hands cramp up and i get super hungry, but i just ignore it and keep drawing or whatever it is at the moment ... i dont think its exactly the same as what ur trying to say, probably less painful! but its a start?? as for the dancing part, i kinda just go sit down once i get tired and talk, since the majority of people i know dont like to dance .. its just me really, lol ...
the only time iv been to a concert where iv been squished between people and all of that, was for a band that i like, but dont like a lot ... the only reason i went was cause my friend dragged me ... but i just got pissed at person behind me who kept elbowing me and trying to talk at the same time .. except i couldn't hear a word they said ...
normally i dont get the pit tickets to concerts, cause its to expensive ... if i go i end up getting the furthest seats *if its organized* or just generally seats pretty far away ... like at the FVT, i got the lawn tickets .....
and crazy fangirling is good everynow and then!! lol, helps to get all the obsessivness out of ur system!

XD No crazy is good but really all that made me sound as if I have a shrine to them or something when in reality the most diru stuff I do is type on this thread and keep their latest CD in my top 20 rotation list. But I believe in savor an experiance when it happens. lol Yeah I'm not really religious either but I've had the opportunity to participate in ceremonies that went on for hours and they became like that, er I wanted originally to compare it to ballet classes because there's a moment where pain doesn't matter but it just didn't seem right because that's an instance where you're ON stage and not receiving. But yes! That's what I'm talking about that moment where pain doesn't matter and its something that's not confined to the audience - I think its catching for the performers which makes rock concerts unique because they're some of the only concerts where the audience as well as the act are both in discomfort together.

Thanks a very good question PANTS, you sound like you care for her very much. Id say if you're going to take her you should consider a few things.

1) What kind of person she is. Personally I don't see anything wrong with a 14 year old rocking out at home to music she can't understand the lyrics to, however at a concert understanding the literal meaning of the lyrics or no there is that incredible vibe that goes through the audience that *is* sexual, sometimes violent and at times a bit hysterical.

2) Keep in mind you're taking her to see a band who's lead singer fish hooks his face. Here are some pretty good pictures taken during a concert that should give you a feel of what the average diru concert is like :

musicpix.net

That level of intensity on stage isn't for everyone and seeing someone fish hook themselves or cut themselves with their fingernails or razor blades isn't something you'd like to show her you should let her parents know ahead of time so they can think on it.

3) And I know some people say this isn't a problem but I've taken younger members of my family to a concert before so in my experience its something to worry about :/. And that's how *physically* little she is, where you'll be sitting and how many concerts she's been to before hand. If you're sitting in an area where there's bound to be a lot of energy and she's very small I suggest working something out so you can always be near her. Diru gives some of the most intensity concerts I've every been to and the first one by them I attended at the Wiltern had people in the pit literally passing out and having to climb over the moshers to be helped out by security so they could see the on site medic. lol I still remember the amount of girls in wheel chairs or laying on the ground just trying to breath deeply and shakily holding the water they gave them to sip over in the sick/rest area of the hall after the show. I was almost one of them. So if you DO go ahead and take her make sure you work something out where you can be with her at all times, perhaps wrap your arms around her to keep her from getting mashed (usually I stand behind my cousin at a show and when the crowd moves I put my arms in a loose circle around her to keep her with me and make sure some dumb butt doesn't try to mash her).

I hope whatever goes on you have a good and safe time! :-) And yes a lot of the crowd is female but the concerts I've been to are equally mixed. I think JREF tends to be a little more female on the diru threads. lol

Wow thank you so much! That really helps. I thought about a few of those things, and the pics really helped. I'm starting to think she shouldn't go. Not really because she's too young, but because she doesn't really understand the kind of music it really is. Right now she's at the "Die is so hot!" stage. And yes, he definitely is, but that's not all it's about. Also, unfortunately, she's very immature (even for her age). I love her to death but she is. She also is much too pretty for her own good, and looks 18. So I can't really blame them, but 20 year-olds will constantly flirt with her/check her out and she has no clue. Her parents asked me to get some info about what goes on at their concerts, and what I thought would be the right decision, I'll think about it a bit more but now it's looking like a no. Thankfully she doesn't know I have any say in it so she won't hate me forever lol. Anyway this is turning into a blog and it was just supposed to be a thank you. lol. so THANKS. ^^ Sorry... *scampers away*

So I read on CDJapan that the limited edition of Agitated Screams of Maggots comes with a sticker.
I don't think I got one...
Also, people are getting their tickets in the mail already? I bought mine for the New York show during the presale and I haven't gotten them yet. I'm trying not to worry.

EDIT: Looking at some of those pics of Kyo from the Family Values tour, some of that blood is obviously fake. So while I don't doubt that he fish hooks the inside of his mouth, I think he amplifies the effect by sneaking blood capsules in there. The blood is far too bright and thick to be real.

As for the chest/stomach clawing, yeah... he's not faking that.

at FVT when I went he scraped his stomach ^^, and if he spit on me......*nosebleeds* uhh...I wouldn't just write a long thing....I"D WRITE A NOVEL!!....ok now that I've gotten that out of my system lol

Saishu
the sticker should be on the white sleeve the cd was in, that's where mine was.

about the blood and blood capsules, how would kyo sing with the blood capsules in his mouth and he doesn't have them in his hand since he keeps his hands open and switches the microphone around so if he did have some in his hand he'd break them when he switches the microphone with his hands.

It's the same concept with wrestling, people think that they blood in pro wrestling like WWE, ECW, TNA ect is blood capsules because it's too bright or too much blood, but it's real blood they cut themselves with small razorblades they have in their hands.

Well... look on this page:
musicpix.net
Bottom row, middle photo. That's definitely fake blood; it's TOO red. It's almost like paint. I know he keeps his nails long and sharp and all (you can see them right there) but he didn't get all that "blood" from scraping the inside of his mouth.
He's got the capsules hidden somewhere.

EDIT: If the link directs you to the wrong pics, the one I'm talking about is on page three of that gallery.

Also, I found the sticker. It was inside where the CD goes, but it was just way down in there. I probably would have never found it if I hadn't specifically looked for it.

Um ok, in those pics I'm going to argue for authenticity. I've been at parties where friends have gotten totally out of control and have started clawing at themselves and believe it or not shallow cuts yield blood that looks like that. Not all blood is the deep deep ruby red shade you're used to seeing when you ***** yourself especially if its the shallow scrapes you get from your nails and then its smeared. Its bound to be a lighter shade because its spread thin.

Also I kept my eyes on him the entire FVT concerts because I had had this exact argument with my guy friend. Honestly Kyo has to much free movement on stage with his hands to be hiding capsules ESPECIALLY when you consider before he started doing what you see in the pictures he stood before the crowd with arms and fingers outstretched so you could see quite clearly that he had nothing before he reached up and started to abuse himself. People who inflict pain upon themselves have a whole different mind set when it comes to things like this so its pointless saying "so and so wouldn't blank" because you're obviously of a healthier mind set so you can't possibly understand what it's like to just go ahead and damage yourself. I think if you look at the progression of self mutilation on stage over the years its only the natural progression of things.

Again, I know the chest and stomach scratching is 100% real, but when blood starts pouring out like that I get suspicious. He did something similar in the performance of "Shokubeni" on the Code of Vulgar[ism] DVD. He punched the side of his face several times until blood came out of his mouth, but he didn't appear to be punching himself that hard.
As for the fish hooking, what makes me question it is the fact that he did it during the same part of "Kodoku ni shisu..." at (as far as I know) every show during the It Withers and Withers and Family Values tours. That leads me to believe that it's just part of the visual aspect of the performance.
Not that it really matters, though; we're all going to believe whatever we want. What we can all agree on is that Dir en grey is awesome, which is really all that's important.

I wish he did more at the one I went to. For some weird reason, he was staring at me b/c there was not a lot of ppl in the pit yet, and he was staring and my friend was like "what why's he staring at u?"
me: *fangirl moment* @__@

It really is real blood, I used to cut myself and the blood if I wouldn't cut deep enough would be that color or red or lighter plus thinner. Also if you fish hook your mouth alot of blood does come out because of the saliva so it's mixed and then the sweat mixes with the blood so not only is it lighter, but it looks like there is alot more because of saliva and sweat.

geez i hope i don't need to lineup 2 days before the concert. it's freezing cold here in toronto in early feb. -.-"
but i really hope they'll have an autograph session. i want them to sign my diru collection man. hopefully they'll have tour t-shirts for sale along with the new album too!!

but re: the blood thing going on in this topic, as a long time diru fan i personally don't like the blood thing kyo do. just don't really see a need to do it anymore when it's obvious that they are focusing more on music rather than looks (gimmicks?).

I don't think the blood is so much as a gimmick as just something that's part of Kyo. I used to cut too :/ (high five Riyko) and its just something that you do and any excuse is a good excuse especially when it comes to stage performance. I think if he did it on his own he'd have everybody worried like that time before but as long as its during songs and what not he can just fall back on that.

Man, whatever happened to the worried about Kyo thread? Where in the hell is that?

taht's why i put gimmick with a question mark after it...
ya i understand what u say, i guess i'm just trying to figure kyo out with my sort of healthy mind....

About that...

Kyo only does it if he's pissed at the moment. IF he's really pissed, he'll do it quite a lot (as he did at Loud Park in October), but if he's feeling happy, he won't do it quite as much.

Oh, and Kyo says he hates theatrics now and keeps everything completely real.
