Dear native English speakers,
Could anyone proofread the sentences from the high school textbook I have to use?
<Starting Out>
My grandfather is 80 years old but very active for his age. Recently his
curiosity made him try to use a computer. I helped him to use e-mail and
the Internet. Today's newspaper says that computers can bring benefits
to both old and young people.
<Focus 57>
a) Progress in medicine has enabled many people to enjoy longer lives.
b) The idea of being old keeps elderly people from going out.
1) Progress in technology has made us feel closer to people living far away.
2) In the past, the long distance prevented me from seeing my grandmother very often.
3) However, cell phones and e-mail have enabled me to communicate with her easily.
<Focus 58>
a) A recent survey shows that only children are more common in modern families.
b) The decreasing number of young people will have a great influence on Japan's future.
1) The TV news says that our city has decided to close down two elementary schools.
2) The city's decision will have a great effect on education here.
<Practice A>
1. Dr. Smith : Mr. Suzuki, why did you come here today?
= Mr.Suzuki, what brought you here today?
2. Mr. Suzuki : I could not sleep because of a terrible headache.
= A terrible headache kept me from sleeping.
3. Dr. Smith : If you take this medicine, you will feel better.
= This medicine will make you feel better.
<Practice B>
1. The newspaper says that older people are getting more active.
2. Recent social changes have enabled them to enjoy various types of leisure activities.
3. For instance, once a week a minibus takes my grandfather to a day-care center.
4. Talking with the young volunteers there makes the senior citizens feel younger.
<Your Turn>
Longer life spans have enabled the older generation in Japan to have richer life experiences than before. For instance, today's newspaper says that the number of old people who enjoy traveling abroad has been increasing. Constant contact with younger people in society makes elderly people stay healthy, both physically and mentally.
That's all.
Thanks in advance.
Hirashin

Sorry, I couldn't edit the title of the thread. I know it's strange.
