Before Enter Capsule Hotel, They Asked Me A Strange Question

Hi my friends, I read a post about kanji tatoo and i remembered in Sendai I think,
I went to a capsule hotel late at night and they asked me if, i had a tatoo ...
Then I turned my head and saw a NO-TATTOO sign....sh*t good for me I don't have one but,
Is there a NO-TATTOO policy going on in Japan or what??

Until VERY recently tattoo's were only worn by criminals and low level gangsters.

Tattoo's were used as a form of criminal punishment.

So the stigma is very much that those with tattoo's are trouble makers etc.
