Asian Cup soccer , anger and hatred between Chinese and Japanese fans

I hate it when sports gets linked to political issues
I know the Chinese are angry about the Japanese government's attitude towards Japan's past,I am angry about it too,but this is sports, man,SPORTS,

the Asian Cup soccer final match will be held Saturday in Beijing
but things are already heated up,
during each games that Japanese team played, the Chinese fans held signs like 'apologize to the people of Asia!' 'give us back our Tiaoyu island!',
the Chinese fans cheers when the opponents' national anthems were played, and booed during the Japanese national anthem, and they booed at the Japanese team everytime Japan gets the ball.
when Japan won the game against Jordan, the Japanese fans were cheering and waving the Japanese flags, the Chinese fans threw garbages at them,
after one game, the Chinese fans chased after the Japanese team bus,the bus had to leave quickly

the Japanese government have officially made a complain to China

from the 2 Channel site
Japanese fans left messages:
- China do not have the ability to hold the Olympic games, consider the safety of the Japanese athletes,we should boycott Beijing 2008
- fortunately, the Japanese team bus have not exploded
- We will go to Beijing to watch the China-Japan final match,if getting beat up by the Chinese people,we must not fight back, even if our bones cracked, let the media do their thing. we will be booed during our national anthem,if we wave our Japanese flags in the stadium we will get beated up for sure, but for Japan,we will do it even if we die. the Barbaric, ignorant Chinese people, they might invade Japan in the 21st century, we will sacrifice ourselves,to crush the barbarian act of the Chinese people.

Chinese fans left messages:
- this message is to all Chinese fans : stand up and boycott Japanese products
- Japan bombed Chongqing 60years ago,of course we hate them
- when the Japanese anthem is played,we will only be sitting there, next time we might tore down their Japanese flag.
- soccer belongs to the world,Tiaoyu islands belongs to China.
- the Japanese refuses to acknowledge the Rape of Nanking, and recently they are trying to invade the Tiaoyu islands, show your patriotic hearts!
- I do not hate the Japanese team,I just hate Japan.

The worst is that these Tiaoyu islands are only 7km2 and are uninhabited. What big troublemakers for twice nothing !

I watched a couple of games and I just saw a little clip were some Chinese guys were escorted by a police officer, I didn`t think too much of it at the time.

if Japan wins, I think there could be a riot in Beijing.

Japan have just scored, 1 - 0

I've only just found it on tv. (It's on Eurosport for anyone who wants to catch the very end). It's looking like a Japan win eh?

3-1 Japan full-time! Congrats Japan!! 👍

Japan's second goal was a handball
THE REFEREES SUCKS!!!!
they should have reviewed this goal immediately and disallow it!!!

I didn't see the goal so I can't comment. It would be shame if a tournament ended up being decided by a goal that shouldn't have been allowed. :( With the quality of refereeing these days I'd hardly be surprised!

The important thing about widdle-biddy islands is not the land mass. It's the surrounding territorial waters that go them.

China give back Tibet to the Tibetans and Xinjiang also known as Eastern Turkestan to the Uygurs!!

They said that they hate Japan I think that means they hate everything Japanese not only the Japanese team. So that message is quite illogic.

Congratulations to the Japanese football team for winning the Asian Cup for the third time!! :win: 👍

"I don't think if China gives back Tibet to Tibetans is a good idea..............because we Americans have to give Texas back to Mexico........and.....Hawaii to the natives. I thought EasternTurkestan was classified as a terrist organization in U.S"said concerned little Mackie :(

Well, that's the problem with hatred in general: it's not logical.

Wrong. They're not just some uninhabited islands. Uninhabited, yes. Useless? No. The Chinese regard the Tiaoyu Islands as a sort of "buffer zone", if you will, that safeguard them from foreign forces. I also believe that there are oil or some national resources there that are beneficial to the country.

And I agree with that poster. China will give back Tibet if America gives back its land to the Native Indians. Obviously that's a no-go area.

The Japanese team is a good team and they deserved to win for the honest sportsmen they were. I just wish the fans would be less hostile, and stop mixing politics into sport. Besides, that sort of useless retorts and insults from both side won't help anything. In response to some of the Japanese fans, Chinese people are neither ignorant or barbaric. They're angry, that's all. They're angry that thousands of their people have been slaughtered and tortured by the Japanese. Who's the real barbarian here, I wonder?

So you're actually saying if a aggressive country invades a other country then they can have it, because we don't want to give back land to the natives and so other countries can just go and take over weaker countries and we'll turn a blind eye to the injustice?

You know a big difference here is that in the US there is freedom of religion and expression. While inside occupied Tibet the Tibetan people have no rights. They have no freedom of expression, no freedom of religion, photos of the Dalai Lama, the Tibetan flag or anything that reflects Tibetan Nationalism are banned by the Chinese authorities.

Look at the map

The Diaoyu islands are part of Okinawa , which used to be an independent kingdom at the time China claims they had some "influence" over the island. I don't think the Diaoyu have ever been populated by ethinc Hans, so why shouldn't Okinawa, now part of Japan, claim the islands as part of their former kingdom, much nearer than mainland China.

Even if China had real claims, the islands should go to Taiwan, not mainalnd China, as Taiwan is historically part of China (and still calls itself China) and is much nearer to the islands.

Musing (Yomiuri)
The Chinese government presumably needed to sow the seeds of anti-Japanese sentiment to divert people's attention from the ill effects of high economic growth, such as the widening gap between rich and poor, and to maintain state control.

How did a thread about football turn into an argument about DiaoYu islands and Tibet...?

But whilst we're on the subject, maybe all the white people should get out of America, Australia, and so on and so forth...didnt they invade and take away the power of rule from the natives as well ? :eyesrollintobackofheadandoutofears:

BBC News : Chinese riot after Japan victory

Chinese football fans have rioted in Beijing after Japan won Asia's prized football championship in a tense final.

Fans burned Japanese flags, shouted obscenities and sang patriotic songs outside the stadium as more than 5,000police lined the streets.

Defending champions Japan won the Asian Cup 3-1, but faced jeers from Chinese fans throughout the match,

Japan's national anthem was drowned out by jeers, which continued whenever Japan had possession of the ball.

Tens of thousands of Chinese fans were at the game - their team's first Asian Cup final in 20 years.

There was no violence during the match but afterwards Japan's small contingent of fans had to be bussed to safety as Chinese fans gathered outside Beijing's Workers' Stadium.

The BBC's Louisa Lim says the behaviour of the Chinese fans raises questions as to how the country can keep a lid on nationalism when it hosts the Olympics in 2008.
