OR, do you prefer a trackball? I started with a mouse and small pad; it would run off the edge all the time, kind of annoying. SO, I looked around and bought a trackball unit with a golfball size ball, a scroll wheel , and 4 buttons you can program to do what you want. I spend a lot of time training older patients how to use a PC and just hate having to use the standard mouse on their machines. The trackball seems like the only way to go, faster and being able to choose which button will do what is a great feature.
How about you? Mouse or ball?

I'm a trackball man! I used a mouse for years, then a buddy of mine was leaving the island and gave me a lot of his computer equipment he didn't want anymore. One of the items was a trackball and I fell in love with it! The downside? It is not very usefull for many games...but I don't play that many games anyway.

Neither. I use a touchpad thing. It came attached to my notebook PC.

i am a Mousie, but i am ready for a change in my life... touch screen would be nice!!

I'm a gamer, so mouse is the only way to go for me(wireless mouse on a large pad for maximum manueverability). The first time I saw a trackball was at a friends house, and I had no idea what it was, so after he explained it, I tried it out, but never really caught on.

I'm a mouseman all the way, mechanical with the ball; I was born under the stars for the smaller rodents, no escaping that ! :D
I guess that explains my fondness for all rodents, hahaha..........

Definately a mouse person. No need for a track ball when I have Track IR. :-)

and a good set of these!

If you think you are really good with a mouse. I dare you to Test Your Skills!!!!

:devilish:

I've used just about every kind of input device available today except for the gyroscopic mouse. For games there is no replacing the mouse, for drawing obviously the tablet is superior. I don't mind laptop input systems but I still prefer to use my small wireless mouse instead of a touchpad or thinkstick, although there used to be some fujitsu laptops with a very nice variation on the thinkstick. Trackballs take some getting used to; I just don't care for them very much. What is my dream input device? this thing http://www.wacom.com/lcdtablets/index_21UX.cfm
with this as a close runner up http://tactiva.com/tactapad.html

interesting test, rudel; I was getting about 200ms latency with an average distance to target of 3.8, nifty!

I've never tried a trackball, but this thread has whetted my interest (is that even a phrase?! :? anyway...) - I might give it a go (when I get some money!).

I've never tried gaming with a mouse... only a joystick... (and very rarely - I've never dared to get into computer games because I can sense an addict inside of me waiting to be unleashed! 😌 ). I can't imagine a mouse being very manoeverable - mine always gets unresponsive and needs cleaning often. Doesn't help that my pad is crap - I guess you need a super-smashing pad if you're way into gaming. :p

I wish I had a cordless mouse, though... it would make life so much easier...

I'd love to have a graphics tablet so that I could draw and paint on the computer... I'd really like to try my art skills out in that medium - although I don't think anything can ever replace the "real" materials for me. Oil paints, pencil, pen, etc. etc... the MESSY stuff rules!!! 👍 Plus I spend most of my day looking at a screen... don't know whether I'd be too keen on spending another few hours doing art work on-screen... mehh, I'm getting offtopic here! :sorry:

But thanks for the "inspiration"! 🌹

I used to use a trackball, but it didn't work for me as well as a mouse does. And I don't use just any old rodent, I have to have one with a scroll wheel which makes manuevering a lot easier.

👍

optical mouse with a scroll wheel and since it optical i dont need a mousepad. not a fan of the trackball

I think his computer is on the fritz, so to speak.
He'll be back soon, hopefully.

Mouse +keyboard...
I use alot shortcut and the tab, never used the trackball but I might try some day

I've had a trackball for years. A thumb-ball one. I switched over to a mouse again a few months back, as the trackball was giving my girlfriend a bad case of RSI.
