I've been listening to George Carlin today. One of the tracks is a part about fussy eaters. To me it is really funny. If you haven't heard it, please try it.

It made me think of when I was younger. Many times I wouldn't try something because of the way it looked or smelled, or even the way the name sounded. Even today I see people refuse to eat certain Japanese foods because of smell (natto) or the way it looks (suki yaki comes to mind for some people) or even just based off of other peoples opinions they have heard (goya, natto, umeboshi).

For years I wouldn't eat okra, squash, cantelope, liver, onions, pickles...and the list goes on.

As I have matured though I have learned that many of the foods I wouldn't try were actually quite good.

What about you? Are you/were you a fussy eater?

There are certain foods that I just don't like for one reason or another. I'm not a fan of natto, due to the smell and the texture. When I was younger there was something about cooked spinach that turned my stomach, and I didn't really like beets or liver (I have no problem with them now). I hate canned tuna for multiple reasons.

For the most part, I'll eat or at least try anything. These days I tend to avoid meat, but it's certainly not because I don't enjoy the taste, and I'm not very strict about my diet restrictions.

I'm still a fussy eater...oh boy, I wonder when I'm gonna snap out of it :giggle:

I'm not particularly fussy when it comes to food. I'll eat just about anything if it tastes decent. Other than most salad vegetables and more exotic fruits, I don't really care much as to what is on my plate as long as its edible and I have a cherry coke to wach it down. 👍

I used to be a very fussy eater and ate like a bird. Now, I eat like a horse.

Some of the strong smelling or certain textured foods still give me a hard time. I can handle cooked onions but not raw, I like most herbs except cilantro.

I was kind of sensitive about home-cooked food when I was at my friends' house, too. Each family has their own ways of cooking food, and it can be very different from how your mother would cook.
I didn't want to be rude to their mom, so I just pretended that I liked it.

I'm not a fussy eater, and never have been.
The only food I've run across that I really detest, and won't eat, are green olives (the black ones are ok, though!).
There were a few foods that I didn't like when I was a kid, but I can only really remember disliking courgettes and liver - these days, courgettes are yummy, and liver, well, I avoid it but I can eat it. =P
My mom had no truck with fussy eating (but she could tell if I really disliked something, as opposed to just playing up). 😌

Well, I'm not a fan of liver, and certain vegetables like asparagus and brocolli turn me off, ditto for beans and olives, otherwise, I'm pretty openminded about the food I eat.

:-)

Like a good Roman, I eat almost everything is eateable.
One of the few things I don't like is the Roman intestins dish called Pajata (or Pagliata), but instead I love good Scottish Haggis.

NOW GIVE ME MY HAGGIS!!!!

<3 cursore.

Haggis FTW.

I'll try anything once, ussually, In Japan I seemed fussier then usual but nothing terrible.

Yum yum, haggis is delicious! :liplick:
I'm like nuri, although there's a lot of foods I haven't tried in fact, but I'll try anything. 👍

I was a bit aprihensive of the more exotic Japanese dishes, mainly sushi, I just didnt get used to the raw texture and stuff yet.

Kin, have you noticed if I combined the Scottish Flag with your English flag it would make a much prettier flag?. :p

Glad to hear someone down south liking Haggis for a change instead of asking if we have hot running water and electricity. 😊

Who gave it to you? Can't be the Welsh;-) Damn, you'll be learning how to play Rugby next:D
I can be a fussy eater for foods I know about. If it is new, though, I will give it a try.
Ones I cant stand are:
Cooked tomatoes. They make me gag. I just cannot eat them.
Parsnips. Neither my brother or myself can eat them. We refer to them as the Devils vegetable
Liver. Never to be eaten by me ever again
Tripe. Somethings are not meant to be eaten and this is one of them
Custard or anything made using warm milk. I find the warmer milk is the more sour I find it.
Pork. I just went off it. I find it bland and tasteless
