Kimchi stinks. THey serve it in the chow halls here every day for the KATUSA's (ROK Army soldiers who volunteer to augment the U.S. Army), and I just about gag when I walk by it. I've eaten plenty of real Korean food here (not the stuff in the chow hall or in the KSB, but out in the local town), and alot of it is really good, if not interesting to say the least. But kimchi? No thanks.

I love Kimchi. On my first day in Seoul I had to much of though. Because it gave me a little pain in the stomach I had the eat porridge next - but that was nice as well.
:gohan:

Yeah I ate dog meat....I was living in Bali for a while and had it there. I thought it was beef because it was cooked in so many spices.....didnt know untill after I swallowed.
Kimchi is better....have it nearly everyday...

Kim Jong-Il, when he talked with Kim Dae-Jung, was said that N Korean Kimuchi was sloppy.

I don't know how I got along so many years without it.

I love kimchi, unless less it has too much anchovy in it. I have two different bottles in the fridge now - one I bought at Mitsuwa (a Japanese market) and the other (larger) I bought at Assi Super (a large Korean market). I like the one from Mitsuwa better because the one from Assi has a strong anchovy flavor. Both contain anchovy, but the one from Assi is a bit too strong. I still like it, but not as much.

I like Japanese style pickled vegetables and make my own using a pickle press that I bought at Mitsuwa. I'm still revising the recipes, however.

It's great stuff and I have been missing it since I left Korea.
Plus, a lil kimchi each day helps keep the SARS away! ;)

ooo, depends on the type of kimchi tho...the leafed ones i don't really like (hahaha, don't know them well enough by name....) but other than that, it's a great thing to eat with plain rice :D

I just came back from Korea, the kimchi there is HOT HOT HOT. I'm now a bit worried everytime I think of eating kimchi that it might be the incredibly hot stuff. The stuff in Japan is quite mild and good in comparison, as the kimchi in Korea is quite simply ONLY hot (that's my take anyways).

Tried some in a Korean restaurant in Okayama. First impression - that someone had taken all the parts of vegetables normally put on the compost and tried to disguise this by adding chilli.

But I would try it again just to see if it was as bad as I remember!

I like kimchi ^^ It's so yummy. And my bf doesn't like it cause it's too spicy for him :D But I love spicy food :D

Yeah I'm the hundredth voter ^^
I don't really like kimchi, it's just the taste
it's not spicy, it just taste weird

Reiku: It's a Traditional Korean Dish, It's Chinese leaves, marinated in a sauce, which is spicy

It's amazing how wrong information gets around.

No, it's usually plain old cabbage (or another vegetable) that used to be fermented in the ground in a pot with hot peppers, garlic and onions for a number of days. Today one can purchase a "kimchi refrigerator" that will keep the correct temperature for fermentation.

Kimchi, according to wikipedia, along with other sources, is listed as one of the worlds top 5 most healthy foods because of it's healing properties and anti-cancer agents as well as bad bacteria and virus killing agents. Also, it was said to kill the bird flu that was so prevelant a few years ago.

Anyway, I eat it regularly about 3-4 times/week and it is a great food. I love it! The HOTTER the BETTER and more healthier for you!

I like the smell of Takuan, but my husband is not so fond of it so I stop buying it...
Yes, it smells like dirty feet, but I've learned to love it also and eat it regularly.

I am sure someone else has said this already but the best way, no, I should say MY favorite way to eat Nappa Cabbage Kimchi is to let it ferment to the point where it is really sour, then chop it up and stir fry it with some pork. Mmmmmmm~Mom!!:gohan:

I like kimuchi.
i sometimes hate kimuchi espacially hot stuff.
because other slight taste of the ingredient is paralyzed in hot.

I like kimchee, I found out about it in Japan actually. There was an old woman who used to sell it at my station, I think it was home made. You can eat that stuff right from the jar. Usually when I go out for Korean food it comes as a side dish. They pickle other things too in the same way but I prefer the cabbage. I'm not sure what the other stuff is, it's like daikon almost, its a cubed, white vegetable that's kind of tough and crunchy but they pickle it like kimchee.

Other Korean dishes I love are Gamjatang and Dokpoki. The Korean restaurants where I am (not sure if it's just here or if its a common practice at all Korean places) serve combos, which is usually one big dish like a large pot of Gamjatang or something, several side dishes which range from chicke jiblets to kimchee to french fries to these brown saucy glass noodles, and then every combo comes with either 5 beers or 1 bottle of soju. All that is usually only $20.
