Anyone else into Cars here? + Hello

Im just wondering if anyone else here has adopted cars as a hobby/pastime. For me its one of the premier reasons I plan on staying in Japan next year. Im in my 4th and final year of university, Ill have a B.A. Honours Criminology in April and I plan to spend about half a year or so in Japan after the summer to experience their culture. (Likely going as an English teacher though im open to any other job)

I窶况e been into cars since I started university, Japanese Imports especially. My favourite manufacturer is Toyota, I own a 1991 MR2 Turbo and a 1987 Corolla GTS (AE86 for those in the know) Id love to find rare parts for my cars while im down there, experience all the car culture/enthusiasm I can on my days off. I also enjoy manga, anime, old school video games and japanese food.

Id love to hear any stories you have about some experiences in Japan, or how you are going about travelling there. Here are some shots of my cars I took earlier this summer...the Corolla pics are out of date as it has body work done and new wheels.

Wow, nice collection! The MR2 looks really clean. Cars I have owned include an S14 and an FD.

Anyway, if you are going to live near any large city in Japan, you will seriously freak out over the number of awesome cars you see on a daily basis. Skylines, Supras, RX-7s, Imprezas, Evos, you name it. And at least 95% of the modified cars are very tastefully done, I probably see more "riced out" cars in the America than I did in Japan.

And definitely get a international driver's licence before you go, that way you can rent a car a try driving there. There aren't a lot of sports cars you can rent, but at Mazda Rent-a-car you can get a Miata or an RX-8.

That is one nice looking mr2!! i like those wheels alot!! I dont think i have seen a yellow one before. I see alot of red mark 2's where i live. Yellow definetly looks nice.

Thanks for the replies. FD's are one of my favourite cars on earth, sequential turbo and 2800lbs.... I told me mechanic if anything ever happened to my MR2 an FD is next on my list (he's one of the best RX7 mechs in town)

Your car collection is awesome as well...sorta reminds me of mine but more expensive lol!!

Porl, I have seen a few MK1.5's in Canada, one had a 3S-GTE and another had a DSM 4G63, they are seriously quick, id love to build an MKI as a track car.

Yellow is not a common colour, around 20% or so in Canada are signal yellow. Red is the most common here by far, followed by black then white.

Yeah, I've never seen a yellow one before either.... at first I thought it was a custom paint job. In the US it seems like we have way to many of them in that ugly teal color.

Have you looked into doing the '95 tail light conversion?

The 95 tails look much nicer, but they cost roughly 360USD which is almost 500.00CAD....yikes, I think Ill leave those to when I have more of my car finished. Its only about 40% done....Im going to have to put it on hold while I save up for Japan

Im into cars and I want to hump your 86. My dad owns a 95 MR2 turbo, which is in the body shop recovering from a deer incodent.

Im off to Japan on Oct 9th to work at JUN racing for 2 weeks. I hope to get around and see the real culture too.

BTW love the MR2.

Where I come from, most of my friends tell me day after day that aussie V8's such as Ford F250's and Commodores are far better than any 4 or 6 cylinder (or rotary I guess). Usually my comeback is that the power to weight ratio for a skyline is far more sensible than for a Holden SS (V8). Do you guys have any other good reasons for why these cars are sooo much better than 8 bangers?

the first car i fell in love with was a late model 3000gt(when they gonna bringem back) then nsx then s2k. the nsx(i get so exited when i see those) is still my fav car and i still like japanese cars even though im now completely into bikes:romance:

i dont know what holdens are so i just looked up a 2003 Subaru Impreza WRX STi and a 2003 Holden Monaro CV8-R on supercars.net, im not sure if theyre supposed to be comparable but the 'no replacement for displacement' seems to have failed the 6liter v8,(and of course both these compared to my wimpy *** 600 suzuki) but of course the impreza is turbo'd
