because I wear those cotton hats and basketball jerseys
and I listen to some hip hop,r&b and other types of 'black' music
and of course,I watch and plays lots basketball

Actually I'd rather say mother than sister 😊
Lol I dunno why but I've this feeling asian/oriental women tend to behave "motherly" lol just look at my (few) friends when they treat me to a diner after I helped them lol I get the feeling they're my mother ^^'

Hum...Maybe it's just a joke? Oo
To me racist means saying things like "nigga are **censored** !!" or "Chinese people are monkeys !!"

nope
I've always heard him dissing other races,
he disses the whole races, not individual people.

hmm... is he a good brother? o.O

dreamy - I suppose... :p
well... I dunno... to me my parents are one-of-a-kind in this world! :D

When I taught high school math at an inner city school in NYC one of my students called ME a [the N word].

I told him I was the teacher so he had to also say "Mr."

Dream Time,

Have you heard about young women in Japan who get plastic surgery because they didn't like their Oritental features and wanted more of "Hakujin" features?

They ended up with a face that is completely different from what they had envisioned and ended up committing suicide.

I wonder if Michael Jackson is happy with the way he looks now.

Dream Time - I see... well... how good can a brother like that be... ^^;

golgo - eek... that's so... sad? o.O well, kinda scarry... ^^""

thats a stupid reason to commit suicide!

there is nothing wrong with the Oriental features!

I agree with you completely, Dream Time! Take for instance the before and after shots of those J-pop singers. Ayu looked cute in her before picture and in her after picture, she looks like an alien. Seriously, she really looks like one of those aliens with the huge black eyes and tiny bodies. Those huge eyes just look weird on her face. Well, at least to me. I think she looked cuter before.

I think Oriental features are really nice. Especially the skin tone and bone structure of the face. I would say I like the black hair too, but I still think the ones that have changed their hair color look nice. Just something about the skin. Oh, the skin. And the hairlessness...*sigh* Anyway...I'm losing my train of thought...

Michael Jackson looked a hell of a lot better back in the day. As a matter of fact, I used to have the Thriller record jacket opened to his centerfold and had it tacked to my wall. I used to put on red lipstick and put lip prints all over it! :D However, I would not do that now... :p

I used to do the same thing to his "Off the Wall" album. :D :D :p :p :sorry:

What an interesting thread... YAY for mutts (I use the term in the most endearing sense, as I am one), multilingualism, and multiculturalism!!!!!

Though I think people should, regardless of culture & ethnicity, strive to be happy with themselves... we all know something of this.

Chiquiliquis,

You live in Yamanashi ? Must be so nice to have a great view of Mt. Fuji all the time. There's something special, something magical about Mt. Fuji, even though it's just a mountain. Someday I'd like to climb it.

I feel the same, my whole family was born pretty much in the Philippines where labor and stuff was something unavoidable and my dad always tells me how lucky i am not doing backbreaking labor to help out the family and i feel out of place because i can't relate unless i experience, although i do appreciate it, and everyone in the family speaks the language except me, i feel i dont belong but i do like the things that are in the family , maybe i should pick up a book and start learning

bilingual? Like in American-East, American South, American Californian and Redneck American for some other variations? :D

What are you smoking?

What TF are you talking about?

You got a dictionary?

My mother has expressed some disapproval about "how Western" I look or act (I don't think I look western at all, but anyway...) - which baffles me since it was her decision to give birth and raise me in Canada. :?

In fact, she was disillusioned with some aspects of Japanese society, and did the shameful thing of emigrating because she didn't fit in - but of course, she didn't "fit in" in Canada either, and even I have had brushes with racism in Toronto, one of the most multicultural cities one can live in.

Now that I'm in Ireland, I encounter racists frequently. :( And since my husband married a visible minority, so does he.

But as for fitting in, well one of the values I took away from being raised in an individualistic culture was that I don't see the point of trying to fulfill others' expectations. I am a combined result of several very disparate influences, and others must take me as I am, whatever I may be. And since living means interacting with others, I also try to understand others for their real traits and quirks and appreciate their strengths.

Apparently I'm a rare type (only child, INTJ) and peer pressure has never meant anything to me. I do remember looking down at classmates (when I was far less mature) who were forced to attend Japanese language school and who wasted everyone's time by not trying to study conscientiously. I knew that so long as I look East Asian I would be expected to know how to speak another language, so I made a real effort to keep up my Japanese.

I also never considered dating anyone Japanese-Canadian (or Japanese-American) because I hadn't met anyone that was as proud or accepting of being what they were as I (not that I flaunted or exhalted in being effectively of two cultures or anything, but I didn't make any effort to be "more" Western than school already trained me to be). But that was a matter of respect, rather than any consciously bigoted racist bias.

all the different US accents/dialects yo.

Speaking a southern dialect does not make you "bilingual."

Being able to speak in both northern and southern dialects of American English still doesn't make you "Bilingual."

Now, having two tongues . . . then you're defintely bi-lingual :D .

You'd have to be able to speak two distinct languages to be considered bilingual.

it was den's joke, i just answered your qurestion.

either way i find it kinda odd that in a country the size of the US, while there are many different accents etc they are still intelligable to each other while a much smaller place like germany has some that arent. or like china, where accents became dialects which became totally separate languages; cantonese/mandarin.

China is a combination of about 60 ethnic groups, there are many different languages
but like 90% to 95% of Chinese people speaks Mandarin
I just knowledged that Cantonese is actually older than Mandarin, like those poems by Li Bai from the Tang Dynasty were written in Cantonese
I've heard that about 60 years ago, when the government was voting for which should become China's official language [Mandarin or Cantonese]..the Mandarin side won by one vote.

actually, some Mandarin speaking people, especially those from Shanghai, would think that the Cantonese speakers 'are not Chinese'
