Man this place is big, heh.
Well, hello there, my name is Josh, 20 years old, English Brit. Why I'm here, well, I've been interested in many varied Japanese-related hobbies for 5-6 years now, I don't know why I never searched for forums like these before, but glad I finaly did.
It started in the obvious place for a young teen, Japanese animation and video games, the usual Manga titles (Ninja Scroll, Mononoke, North Star, Akira, Ghost in the Shell), and the big Konami titles, Metal Gear Solid, Winning Eleven, etc. There just seemed to be such intense attention to detail in the work, the Manga films I saw made Disney's best efforts look like something scrawled out in crayon by a toddler.
Anceint Japanese history had interested me also, and it's modern culture made me even more curious about the people and life of Japan in general, it was fascinating in a way only an outsider could notice I guess, like, sure, I enjoy alot about my 'roots' and 'people' but I guess I'm a curious bugger, something exotic and unknown is far more interesting to me. Maybe it's that good old Sagittarian adventurenous...
Recently I've been reading the works of Haruki Murakami, they leave me quiet stunned everytime, and are translated exceptionly into English (Just a shame it's American-English...), and this will lead me to more good litrature when I finaly get paid this month. You know my work felt it normal to pay me in December 2 days before Christmas...
2 weeks-worth short...
With a cheque...
... that takes 3 days to clear!!!!! But thats another story...
So then, prehaps a summary of interests;
Music - Listen to all types, play a few instruments, make all types, DJ electronic stuff.
Reading - Story books, litrature, history, graphic novels, comics. From Tolkien to Murakami, Pratchett to Otomo.
Gaming - Pro Evolution Soccer, obviously, RPGs, FPS', I'm also a Blackgammon master, alright at Snooker, and try my best at chess, I can beat all my mates, but their small game...
Cinema - I enjoy my British comedy, obviously, we do it best
I abhore 95% of what 'Hollywood' pumps out and love all the quality imported titles, Crouching Tiger (House of Flying Daggers was well disapointing though...), Akira, Battle Royal, Ring, Casshern, Audition, cult Hong Kong stuff). Monthy Python films, Tarintino, Speilburgs older films, classic horror, WWII films, Donnie Darko, Keven Smith, etc.
Football - I'm a supporter of Southampton FC, work at a football ground, and obviously all the footbal results and transfer gossip is part of my life. I keep up on all the worlds best football, English, German, Dutch, French, Spanish, Italian, J-League, South American, Portuguese.
Ummm, Socialising? - Yeah, thats a hobby now, heh. I go into London for the good clubs, the regular bar in town where a mate DJs (and plays my music), and on forums to generally talk nonsense and 'meet' lots of varied people. I like when people share an interest yet will never once agree an opinion on it.
So yeah, thats why I'm here I suppose, meet people with some shared interest and argue our opinions on it. I guess I could have just said that in the first place and left it there...
