久しぶり、皆さん。日本語（まだ）あまり分からないのでよろしく。この文「生活には願い事をすることができない。」私が作った。英語で「Life is about not being able to do the things you wish for」です。悲しいだろう？とにかく、あの文は正しい？ 正しくないの？私は知りたい。誰かてつだったら、ありがたい。

～願い事をすることが出来ない means, I/we can't pray. And that's not what you want to say, right?

for "Life is about not being able to do the things you wish for"
How about 「生きるとは己の望みを叶えられないもの」
「生きることは希望を叶えられないこと」

生きている限り己の欲望は満たされまい。私が自由と欲望であふれる場所へお連れしましょう j/k

I hope someone could correct mine as well.

～願い事をすることが出来ない means, I/we can't pray. And that's not what you want to say, right?

More to the point, it means we can't make a wish. Even on a shooting star.

for "Life is about not being able to do the things you wish for"
How about 「生きるとは己の望みを叶えられないもの」
「生きることは希望を叶えられないこと」

生きている限り己の欲望は満たされまい。私が自由と欲望であふれる場所へお連れしましょう j/k

The first extension of this that came to mind for me was "Happiness in life is not necessarily the same as fulfilling your desires."

人生における幸福とはかならずしも願いが叶うのと同じものではない。


I'm still not sure it's the most natural formula for 願いが叶う, though, which leaves a few other ideas still under construction (or consideration)..

maybe this one is closer 「人生、自分が望んでいることをすることはできない」
yeah, it sounds weird.
I prefer Elizabeth-san's "Happiness in life is not necessarily the same as fulfilling your desires."

Anyway, I'm switching back to english so you guys can understand me better, since I'm not even close to being average in japanese.

I decided to ask my japanese teacher (who happens to be a nihonjin), though there's a possibility that what she told me isn't accurate because she doesn't fully understand my mother tongue. What she said was an accurate translation is what you'll find in the first paragraph. I realize now that you guys point at it, that 願い事 might be a bit too pompous for what I'm trying to say, and perhaps I might used the word incorrectly, taking its meaning too literally.

I don't know about the vanity of 願い事. But your teacher's translation you "Life is not being able to hope/wish for" doesn't appear to be the same at all, at least on the surface, as the English "The meaning of life is in not reaching your goals" or "not achieving your desires is what gives life meaning"....

I meant "pompous" as in "too exaggerated", or "flashy". By this I mean, saying "you can't make your heart wishes come true" sounds overly dramatic when the intended meaning is "life is about not being able to do the things you want."

(Life means things don't go the way you wish them to be.)

(Life means things don't always go as you think they should.)

ｅｐｉｇｅｎｅさんの意見に同意したいと思っています。

でも、「人生悪いことばかりじゃない」 と自分に言い聞かせる力があります。
自分を励ますというのは、なかなか気力を伴うので、それができる限り大丈夫ですね。
