I imagine just like how "production" can be used as a noun to encompass the entirety of the performance including the lighting, sound, and action that comprises the whole performance, here it refers to the "reach" animations themselves, which serve to elevate the excitement as you get closer to hitting a jackpot.

We can say "That was quite a production!" meaning a show was impressive. That word is more about the stage design, lighting and sound than the actors' performance. We can also talk about the "production quality" of a live show, in the same way. I think 演出, translated as "production," is used in the same way, and you're correct that it refers to the "production" of flashy animations, "beginning when the player hits reach."

There's another word if we change the kanji order to 出演, that refers more to an actor's performance, as they "come out on stage to perform"
