Help で And Conditionals (?)

Hello!

The following sentence was in a self-check review of my textbook. I was supposed to complete the clause with the ellipsis by selecting from the list above:
いい品物で、...、たくさん売れると思います。

The was my answer:
いい品物で、安くて、たくさん売れると思います。

The was the correct answers:
いい品物で、安ければ、たくさん売れると思います。

Well, I translated this answer as: "The items are good, and if they are cheap, I think they will sell a lot."

Just for laughs, I checked out the answer in Google Translate; it came out as: "If it is a good item and cheap, I think that it will sell a lot." The would seem to be making the で clause conditional.

Wouldn't such a sentence be いい品物なら、安ければ、……

Would someone please explain?

It's not like で is conditional. Actually, the whole part preceding ば is conditional as a set.

[いい品物で、安い] + ば --> いい品物で、安ければ

As you can see, this で is the -te form of copula, and it's used to continue clauses, i.e., used as "and" here, as Google Translate interpreted.

いい品物なら、安ければ、 sounds odd. いい品物なら、そして/その上安ければ、 is acceptable, but いい品物で、安ければ is more natural.

If the word order is 安くて、いい品物, なら is used, as you understand correctly. In this case, both 安い and いい modify 品物 as an adjective, not clause, though.

安くて、いい品物なら、たくさん売れると思います。
