1. 彼は喜びのあまり有頂天になっていた。

Translation given: "He was beside himself with joy."

I'm unclear about how 喜びのあまり joins with 有頂天 grammatically. What part of speech is 喜びのあまり functioning as? Could it be adverbial?


2. いや、来ないよ。もうすぐむすめの受験で、それどころ じゃない。

Translation given: "Nope. She [the speaker's wife] won't be down for a while. Our daughter's entrance exams are right around the corner, so my wife's occupied these days."

How does それどころじゃない work? I see that それどころ means "(not) so much", but that doesn't help me greatly.


3. A sentence setting the scene for a dialogue:

近所に住む主婦どうし。

Translation given: "Two neighbours, both of whom are women."

Is どうし = 同士?


4. 彼は大きな市立病院に勤務しておられます。

Translation given: "He works in a big city hospital."

Is おられます an honorific form of おる (居る)? Aside from register, does it have the same meaning here as います?


5. 私が冷凍庫を持つ十分な理由がいくつかある。

Translation given: "There are several good reasons why I have a freezer."

Sorry if it's a dumb question, but does 私が冷凍庫を持つ modify 十分な理由?
