i love futons!

i slept on a futon for about ten years, from the time i was fifteen to about twenty-four. i never had back aches or problems. when we switched back to sleeping on a bed, the back aches started. i never seem to get a good sleep anymore so i'm thinking about going back to my futon (which sits in one of our guest rooms).

i just love 'em.

I brought out our winter futon a couple of nights ago since it has been getting a bit chilly at night. I love winter futon ... co--sy!
Anyone else bringing out the winter stuff yet?

Ill take it you know what a futon is! its a friken 2" thick matress type thing. No springs , and usualy on a tatami floor ( hard ). On this you will usualy ( in japan ) have a bean filled pillow which is hard as hell. tell me again you think this is comfortable!! Japan's idea of sleep comfort SUCKS , don't you try and tell me different!

Oooooo winter in japan huh?! lemme troll some here!!

What the HELL is a wooden house in winter?! "Oooo oooooo lets build our house out of wood and fake plastic bricks ... yes that'll make us nice and warm in winter. Oh i got a better idea !!!!!111 lets put red and white covers over the land we will build the house on!!!1111 that will be even better!!!!!!!!!

Awww man! why did out house fall down in an earthquake!? can't of been because it was built of cheapy crappy wood and plastic ... " Hey .. try painting the wooden skirting in your typical japanese house .. a japanese person will hate you for it. They think that wood has some sort of power which requires no maitenance. stupid people ... stuuuuuupid.

Whilst we're on the subject of houses in japan... ask a japanese person what the area at the entrance of a house is for .. i mean REALLY for. They will come out with the most stupid reason you can think of.

nzueda: >>Anyone else bringing out the winter stuff yet?<<

i've just taken out our winter things.

salaryman: >>tell me again you think this is comfortable!!<<

our japanese pillows aren't filled with beans though, they're filled with millet and they're very, very comfortable. i suppose it's a matter of taste. i never have neck aches (or back aches for that matter) using the neck pillows. to me, the springs and such in mattresses are uncomfortable, but many people find them comfortable.

"don't you try and tell me different!"
good show, by jove! admission is the first step to recovery

Okay, okay. I'm seriously considering getting a futon, and finding this conversation very frustrating.

How about, let's decide on a definition of a futon. The Japanese futon is the tradition one; but the American one appears to be a sofabed.

Salaryman - I honestly find futon wonderfully comfortable. and I love the big super fluffy winter duvets.
I have recently changed from a pillow filled with buckwheat (or something similar) to a western pillow and my neck is worse - no kidding! I think the western one is too flat. I think I'll change back!

Haivart - When I came back to NZ after my first trip to Japan it really used to annoy me to see uncomfortable sofa's labelled as futons..... why do they give it that name???

This is an average Japanese futon:

This is from a furniture store which calls this a futon......???

That's why I mean by asking if people actually know what a futon is. I know that in my own country they used to advertise lowdown matress beds as futons which is comepletely wrong.

okay, but still ain't talking about nothing :)
i sleep on floors all the time, i could toughen up for the tatami *cue rocky theme*

Nzueda, that is a most uncomfortable looking futon-sofa. They might call it that because some GI didn't want to sleep on the floor, so a frame was made for the futon, that was a bed at night and a sofa by day. (At least, that sounds good) I know what you mean about the pillows--they're too soft, so I think I'll try a filled one.

Salaryman,

If the best you can do, is resorting to calling pretty much anything that you disagree with "stupid" then I'd give up before you start to sound like your favourite adjective...

Tiger

Well, Personally, I love futons! I hope this ends this stupid argument between SalaryMan and Tiger, but I think Tiger is right, the floor gives you more back support. SalaryMan, have you ever slept on a futon anyway?! 😊 oh well, off to the futon for some sleep. 🙂

Yes! I love my futon, but to tell the truth i would sleep half off the kitchen table and not care less. A 6am till 11pm (wake up, 2hr train, school, club, 2.5hr train) schedule will make you not care :p

But ive got the winter stuff out, im dying in this weather (wussy aussie 🙂 )

I slept ina bed not to far back, felt like i was gunna fall out the whole time

hey , in that thing it said "put a pillow inbetwen your knees" i thought i was one of the only people who that that was "comfortable" hahahahaha maybe its me being a male and all but still i can't fall asleep without feeling rite haha!

the futons they sell in america suck. they are extremely hard and heavy unlike the ones in japan

Im finding myself waking up on the floor in the mornings with no blankets on, im going to catch a cold :s

I want to try and get a futon for back in Australia, not only are they comfy they also make space in the room (when theres no futon theres more room :p)

The last few nights have been pretty cold so we put our futon on the hot carpet! (/electric carpet) I also bought some fleece p.j's from Uniclo yesterday - soooo cosy ;)

i don't have a futon . but my boyfrind who lives in japn have one ..... ^^
