Iwatani Corporation has completed the construction of a hydrogen-powered boat poised to ferry passengers to and from the 2025 Osaka Kansai Expo. This groundbreaking vessel will mark Japan's first commercial operation of a hydrogen-powered boat. The company plans to commence test operations shortly and aim for full service during the Expo, which begins in April 2025. The ship, Mahoroba, which in ancient Japanese translates to "a comfortable place to live," embodies the company's vision of a sustainable future. The 33-meter-long, 8-meter-wide vessel is designed to accommodate 150 passengers. Its propulsion system utilizes hydrogen fuel cells, generating electricity by reacting hydrogen and oxygen from the air.
