Apart from the first shot, with the higanbana I wanted the differential exposure (not just bokeh). Not too bad--and you don't wanna know how many 'trash' shots were deleted!--but I should've been paying more attention to proper focus and depth of field. Kind of okay at this small size, but should be much better. Might have to do a repeat tomorrow morning...

(and the yellow one is a severe crop of a much larger shot, so tho nice in principle, if done initially with that in mind, it'd hopefully be sharper)

Yesterday, @nice gaijin, @Lothor, and I met in Shinjuku for an informal JREF get-together. It was nice to meet you in person finally!

We spent a pleasant afternoon learning about Japanese brush utensils and inkstones. :)

I'm sharing nice gaijin's photos.

Disclaimer: nice gaijin and Lothor agreed to show their faces. After careful consideration and unpleasant past experiences, I hid my terrible visage behind my avatar. 😅

Very enjoyable afternoon!
Thomas - the Tank Engine - looks really weird on a human face!

Does anyone know what this is? (certainly not kaki/persimmon)

Looks like some sort of guava tree to me though I have never seen any in Japan.

These are Ishigaki cows. The farmer usually raises these cows for 24 months maybe a little longer but its cost effective for 24 months then they go to the slaughterhouse.
I haven't tried the beef here yet I am not a beefeater to begin with let alone a steak man, but a hamburger would be pretty good. I posted a picture of a hamburgers like 18 bucks forget it it says 100% pure beef but yeah right.

I'm going on my second week here on this island I came here September 20th down it's October 3rd Tuesday morning.
Typhoon is coming tomorrow and and Thursday so and I'm out camping I got to find shelter I found a port of seaport a fishing port or whatever has a little shelter there I might just camp overnight there when the typhoon comes.

First two are taken by my wife at the cruise terminal, she's part of the group of shamisen players (among other groups) who are there for the arrival/departure of the ships, and this looks like a departure. She's taking the pics, so is not in them, but dresses the same way--the blue and purple. Not visible in these smaller shots (maybe? just below the smokestack in the first pic), but it's the Asuka II, which you might be able to google.

Meanwhile, I hope this one prevents any vampires from clustering around here:

Do they get paid or is it a volunteer activity?

There's only a token payment, and not even preferred parking once there. And it's 35-40min each way.

Their group is usually one of a number of performances while the boat is loading/unloading, and she's said that some others get more attention from the passengers (probably due to someone previewing what the performances will be for the pax).

How about the full side of a place, a 'broadside', instead of just some small section or detail:

The yellow placard would seem to indicate it's a doctor clinic. Unless it's an ad for another location and they're just using the house as a billboard. I can't read the small print.
