Dear All,
I am newbie....here...If you guys can help me to locate my son in Moriguchi, Osaka.
My former wife just took him away since August last year and until now i have never known my son news & update.
We have lost contact, cannot email, phone even SNS.
Is there any Agency could help me out? Please...

Try working with the police dept. (family services) that would be a first start. I assume you are back in your own country. You'll need to have someone speak fluent Japanese. The conversations are all recorded so be careful how you present yourself.
I am quite surprise that you don't even have her family connections and their addresses. Also was your child registered on the family registered where you lived in Japan, if not, more problems await for you.
Also don't play the Japanese loto if you come to Japan, you just might win.

The police and or the family services are not going to assist a foreigner locate a Japanese wife and or child
that does not want to be found.

Based on the fact that you cannot make contact with her, its obvious she does not want to be found.

Its not uncommon for a Japanese wife to return to Japan with the children.

If you do locate her she may actually call the police to have you removed.

jt9258 makes excellent note of the usual viewpoint of various entities in Japan when they are confronted with an issue such as this.

This article's second paragraph is quite clear that even courts can have trouble getting decisions enforced, which means things can be tough.

Once married to Japanese women, they say they were prevented from contact with their children when their relationships disintegrated, and sometimes even after court rulings in their favor

And that is from October last year:

But there is a slight shift in certain government circles, but the problem is those government circles are usually not able to influence specific cases. They are normally the civil servants in Kasumigaseki. Even so, there is some hope, and for example here is a page from MOFA that does touch upon certain legal matters:

Thank for your reply..
This is absolutely true..
Last time i visit to Osaka and ask Police to assist.
But, they just ask me to go Back to my country, this is very unfair! They are really selfish...

She never told me before to go back to Japan.
She just running away from house without notice, and after 2 months i knew she is in Japan.
Actually my son born in Indonesia, he is indonesian citizen and wife just bring him with temporally japan visa for 3 months.
I dont know how my son status now. Perhaps he will abandon for an Indonesian cause no report as following rules.
This is makes me suffer causes cannot see my son growing. even for a photos.

This is normal, she obviously wanted to return to Japan and felt to say anything to you would
cause you trouble, may be she felt you did not want to live in Japan or that you would not give
up your job.

As its been approximately 10 months since your wife and son left, there is a high chance he is
on her Koseki, which would make him Japanese.

I have some memory of a couple decades back, plus more, when I was able to obtain a U.S. passport for my daughter even though she was on my wife's family register and I seem to recall --- maybe incorrectly --- that somebody stated she was a two-country person until a certain age. What that age was, or is, I don't remember. Plus I have to confess to not keeping myself properly briefed on the full scope of all that because it was a time of hardcore work regimes.

manchan.id, what is the law like in Indonesia regarding the records of a child in relation to the family? I mean, do they have some sort of family register in Indonesia? Any sort of government registration of children at either the local or national level?

How do you know about the 3 month visa, if they just left without telling you?

May I ask how old your son is now?

Yes..My Son already registered in Japan Koseki & Indonesia Family Register, it means i apply for affidavit, so he has two nationalities until 18 yo..and he would make decision to choose after 18 years ols!

I know it very well....cause before my son only has Indonesia passport and need a visa to enter Japan, so i have checked to Japan consulate about this!

Back to Japan is OKAY, but for keep hiding my Son to me is not normal, cause i am the Father and i would support my son..This is really unfair enough!

If your son is registered on the Koseki he would be Japanese and your wife would not need to
obtain an entry visa for your son to enter Japan.

If your son has dual nationality, he does not need to decide which he wants to keep until
he is 20 years old in Japan.

Did your wife ever mention that she wanted to return to Japan?

You may be the father of your son, but as you have explained that he is on your wife's Koseki
he is Japanese and if your wife has brought him to Japan and broken all ties with you, there is
very little you can do other than go the legal route.

This means appointing a lawyer, which will be very expensive and guarantees nothing, because
you would be fighting the Japanese legal system, which is a very very slow process, with hearing
dates being just once a month.

Also for these points, I agree...so it is not possible for me to see my son again!

There are Japanese who hate the Japanese way of life, but they accept it because they are Japanese.

Without a long expensive legal battle you may never see your son again, but even with a legal battle
there are no guarantees.
