MEXT Scholarship (Graduate Students) 2017

Congrats to everyone!

The consulate has just called me. They said that I passed the secondary screening, but that this itself is no guarantee of my scholarship, as the MEXT still needs to contacts the University and assess whether they are still interested in having me, as well as confirm budget issues. Supposedly, I'll have a definite answer by February only, but I'm almost there.

Does anyone have any information on this? I'm waiting for the university to contact me, specially in order to begin dormitory reservation procedures, but I'm really anxious, tbh.

Thats great! Congratulations! And I re-read the past threads and Nagoya university usually contacts its students around 1st of December! Dont worry, I think you are safe now

I just received a message from my professor saying that he received an official letter from MEXT saying that I was assigned to his Laboratory at The University of Tokyo.

Congratulations to you too! I don't think there would be any reason for the scholarship not to be given to you at this point... I mean... maybe if the university disappeared from earth... but otherwise I would say you can start packing

Thank you too, Indojindesu! I'm checking my email account like crazy since then. I hope they contact me soon. And don't worry, I'm sure you'll hear some news regarding this very soon. From what I understood, they have a HUGE amount of students and universities to attend, so the whole process probably takes some time.

I'm also a potential MEXT student and I received news from the embassy yesterday telling me that I have successfully passed the second screening but the scholarship is not guaranteed yet. They said I will receive news about the scholarship in the next 3 months. At the earliest - end of December. So there's a lot more waiting ahead.

I see that some people here have been contacted by their professors already. I only received news from the embassy so far. :/

Hello everyone! I too wanted to inform everyone I got confirmation from my embassy (they told me the university is not decided yet, but I will find out sometime in january. I'm so worried,haha).
I'm guessing not all embassies received the news at the same time (and anyway, perhaps they might not bother contacting people on friday, although mine did). So dont stress out too much!

I really panicked this week so I found a Mexican Scholar who received the schorlarship 1.5 years ago and asked him when and how he found about he had won.

He said that advisors are not supposed to contact us before the embassies XD
But anyway, he found out until January that he had ben granted the scholarship, so I'm going to try and not be in a panick for what could possibly be 2 months -___-

I am trying so hard to wait patiently. I obtained three LoAs from Kyoto , Keio and Osaka University. I do hope to start this journey by April 2017.

Does anyone have any information as to what are the chances to fail the scholarship after all?

Did the you hear about passing the secondary screening from the Embassy?

As far as I know, you have pretty much received the scholarship if you have passed the secondary screening!

The embassy e-mailed me three days ago telling me that I have passed the secondary screening. They told me that the final step is MEXT choosing the university, and they will reach me with a final answer on January 2017.

Yeah I also check my email every minute and hope to hear the news soon.
Two days ago I called the Embassy of Japan and they said they were also waiting for the MEXT 's decision...

I applied to Kyoto Uni and I have not heard anything T______T
I'll keep my hopes up until January XD
