MEXT Scholarship through University Recommendation

Actually my supervisor has been supporting me a lot. But because of faculty's quota and other faculty 's priority, as he said, this year becomes very competitive for me.
 
Sorry to bother you guys.Anyone here from Nagoya Institute of Technology got MEXT scholarship?
I have applied this year for Graduate student program(IGPGE).After selection I was informed that I was accepted into the university. University has selected total 10 students and among them 5 will be awarded the MEXT scholarship.The university has 5 MEXT quota this year. They also informed that I was selected for the MEXT scholarship recommendation from the university. Till then I have continuously contacted the admission them and they informed the result will be out after MEXT meeting in May-June period.
Watching some university already published the result I am quiet paranoid as the result is yet to published. Can anyone tell me what are odds of being rejected after university recommendation in this situation?I am a bit tensed.Hope anyone can give me good idea about this. Thanks.

I know that the result of MEXT scholarship for general recommendation was release last mount except for special program. I think you like in my case. I applied for Biotechnology Global Human Resource Development program at Osaka University (special program) and I am waiting for the final result of MEXT application. However, the secretariat of my prospective professor told me the result will release around the end of June. She told me that although we are not sure the result yet, almost every single person will pass, so don't worry. I think you will get good new as soon. ^^

Btw,I don't think it is special program :( it is a masters program of duration 2 years. Thats why I am kind of tensed. I have contacted to admission office and they replied that MEXT scholarship are the process between university and ministry. After they get the result they will inform me and they are expecting it very soon.

I have applied to Special Recommendation for a 2 years master in Nagoya University. If they haven't tell you the result of your application yet, probably, you applied for special recommendation. This results come out in June-July.

I want the results now!!! >.<

I'm not sure, I just know that Uni recommendation has a higher probablity of success rather than embassy recommendation. Also I have heard that special recommendation is even higher than normal uni recommendation. If you don't get the MEXT Scholarship before going to Japan, there is another MEXT Scholarship for students currently in Japan, a friend of mine got this one. No clue about the odds about this last scholarship.

Yukkei is correct that most likely your program is under special recommendation if you have yet to receive the results. MEXT will release the special recommendation results by end of June, but my uni will only release the results by mid-July.

I know the feeling of having family/friends with too much expectations! I'm just trying to keep my mind off the results for most of my day, otherwise I'll go crazy with this long wait.
 
Hi... I wanted to ask how you approach your respective supervisors asking whether they can recommend you for MEXT scholarship via uni recommendation?

I mean, I'm going to email them about my background, research interests and asking whether they are willing to accept me as a student there; but how should I ask if they can consider to nominate me to MEXT scholarship via uni recommendation?

How you people usually approach the professors? Advice needed...

Hi. This is my first post. I am really glad I was able to find a forum online about applying to Japanese Universities with the MEXT scholarship. Many people in my university that I know aren't going to apply to a japanese school.

My biggest question is can I apply for the MEXT scholarship at multiple universities? I have 5 schools that I want to apply to in Japan and 4 of them are MEXT, and one of the e30.

I know that if MEXT see me recommended by multiple schools I will be rejected but there is no guarantee that I will nominated by the university? If I apply for university recommendation and I am accepted, will they let me know? Or should I just apply for MEXT at one school and hope that I get it?

I am interested in going to the University of Tokyo, I have a 3.745/4 GPA, and a year and a half of research experience. I found a professor that I am interested in contacting to work in their lab but I wondering three main things. First I really want to contact one professor because he has research interest very close to my own. University of Tokyo, however, requests that applicants don't contact professors until we finish our online application. If I contact him anyway and give him my CV will that hurt my chances?

Also if I am rejected by the two professors that I am interested in working with, can I select additional professors to contact?

Finally, in terms of GPA and research experience, do you guys think I am a competitive applicant?

Yes, you can. However, I don't think that is a good idea. It's too risky. If they found out during the interview, you might be rejected.

If there are more than one uni select you as their candidate, you have to choose only one of them and retract your application from other universities. There also might be the case that MEXT will reject you in the end. If that happens, I think it will be difficult for you to be nominated again next year by those universities that you decline their offer before.

Sorry, I don't know. The application/selection process varies from university to university. My university encourages all the applicants to get the approval from the professor before submitting the application.
 
Passing the MEXT exam abroad means the Japanese Government pays the school and return ticket. Even provides a subsidised accomodation (like 10,000Y a month) but not always.
Anything outside of that is - you might be accepted but who pays?
 
My Uni just told me the results are going to be announced in late August!!!!! How can this be possible? I'm going to die waiting... I hope my professor is wrong...

Did they told you when the results come out? Maybe is different in each university? Oh god I'm really going to die of anxiety

hi Cony-Nanny, I'm also applying for biotech global human resource dev program, watanabe lab at OU and till now, still heard no news from university about MEXT selection result although my prospective professor's secretary said it would be announced around June (it's end of June now by the way). Hope we'll get the good news soon.

Today is the last day of June, the result is not yet released for special recommendation via university. I just thought about an "unfortunate" case while worrying and waiting for the result. I read in the thread that even recommended by university, the candidate may fail at the MEXT selection round. So is it also applied for special recommendation? There is no guarantee 100% that a candidate recommended by university will surely succeed at the MEXT selection round, rite?
 
I have seen almost 99% special recommendation get positive result if there is no loophole in the application,i mean to say if all papers are ok. However, I asked my university today and they informed me that MEXT told them today that the result will be announced within a week. So,it is coming within this week I assume.

Meanwhile, people also say that the chance of being successful via university recommendation is relatively high, 90-99%. So I wonder whether special recommendation will be similar to that case. Well, waiting for the result in the past 2 months is literally painful.
 
same here mate.i kept knocking university and they get bothered :D though everytime they responsed and asked me wait.This time also the same,though this time they replied mentioning MEXT told them the result will be announced within next week.

The differences in success rate that you have seen come from the fact that university recommendation has two categories : "normal" university recommendation and "special" university recommendation. In general, you have better chances with the uni recommendation than the embassy one, and, among the uni recommendations, you have the most chances with the special one (the success rate is around 95-100% as said before). The results we are waiting for are the ones from special recommendation. I would not worry too much :)
