Hello,

I've recently downloaded a game to play on my phone when I'm not at home. It also has some story to it, and I've encountered some sentences that I'm not sure I am understanding right.

1) A:にこちゃん
私達をお手伝いしてくれる方ですよ~
にこ:なるほど
まずは部長の私に挨拶来たのね
いい心がけだわ
The person who came to help is the reader.
a) Does へ indicate the purpose for which the person came?
b) I think the difference between に and へ is that に indicates the final purpose for which the person came, while へ implies that there are other reasons to follow after that. Is this correct?

2) センターポジションといえば、ユニットの中でも花形
場合によっては曲のイメージがガラっと変わることもあるんです
She is explaining the rules of the game. ユニット is your team of singers and センターポジション is the member who is placed in the center.

a) Does でも mean "even" here?
b) So is she saying something like this "Speaking about the center position, even inside the unit, she is a star" >>> "Speaking about the center position, everyone in the unit is a star, but she is an even more important star"
( センターポジションといえば、ユニットのみんなは花形だけど、センターポジションはもっと重要な花形だ)

3) Following the last sentences:
同じユニットでも
曲によってセンターが変わったりするもんね~
I looked at the english version and they translate the last part as "You might want to change the leader, depending on the song". I know もん can mean "you should", but here isn't she literally saying "Depending on the song, the (ideal) leader changes (and other things change as well depending on the song)"?

1) a)
Right.

b)
I don't think so. Although 挨拶に来た/挨拶しに来た is more common than 挨拶へ来た, there is no difference in meaning between them as same as when に and へ are indicating the direction.

2)
I think that's ユニットの中で + も as "too/also", not "even" (グループの中でも花形だし、ユニットの中でも花形). This ユニットの中でも has a nuance of "especially" as a result.

3)
変わったりする means 変わることもある here.

1)b) ...about に and へ...I always thought that this is the difference.
The primary difference between the 「に」 and 「へ」 particle is that 「に」 goes to a target as the final, intended destination (both physical or abstract). The 「へ」 particle, on the other hand, is used to express the fact that one is setting out towards the direction of the target. As a result, it is only used with directional motion verbs. It also does not guarantee whether the target is the final intended destination, only that one is heading towards that direction. In other words, the 「に」 particle sticks to the destination while the 「へ」 particle is fuzzy about where one is ultimately headed. For example, if we choose to replace 「に」 with 「へ」 in the first three examples of the previous section, the nuance changes slightly.

2) I also considered that it could mean "also".
A:私が重要なことを教えてあげる・・・そう!センターポジションについてよ!
ライブが成功するかどうかはセンターポジションにかかっているといっても過言ではないわ
B: センターポジションといえば、ユニットの中でも花形
場合によっては曲のイメージがガラっと変わることもあるんです
C:同じユニットでも
曲によってセンターが変わったりするもんね~
I gave a little more context before that sentence. I would translate starting from the second line like this:
A: It's not an exaggeration to say that whether the live succeeds or not depends on the center position.
B: Talking about the center position, she is also the star in a unit.
I don't understand where I am supposed to put "especially". Maybe "She is especially the star of a unit"? In your example as well (グループの中でも花形だし、ユニットの中でも花形), how do you translate this with "especially"? (She is also the star of the group, and she is especially (above all) the star of the unit.)

3) So it means "Sometimes the (ideal) leader changes depending on the song"?

4) 再会したとたん打ちあけるんだもん。

I am not entirely sure... is 打ちあける the same as 打ちあけた?

The given translation is "He suddenly opened his heart the moment he was reunited with us". At first I translated this as "As soon as I see him again, I will tell him everything", but after looking at the given translation, the context, and the way that とたん is generally used, I changed my mind. Do you think there is any reason why she uses present instead of past here?

1)
There are various theories as to the difference in meaning between に and へ among linguists. Some say that there is a slight difference between them, and some say there is no difference. I've read a linguist points out that as far as he knows there is no Japanese textbook that emphasizes the difference aggressively. Anyway, I think ボブは日本に行った。 and ボブは日本へ行った。are the same, for instance.

2)
Yeah, ユニットの中でも特に花形 makes it more clear, maybe?

3)
Right. And, this would be needless to say, 同じユニットでも means "even in the same unit".

4)
The meaning is basically the same between the two forms, but unlike the present form + んだもん/んだもの,the past form + んだもん/んだもの seems to be more often used to express a complaint, not a reason/cause of surprise.

2) Not really. I mean, I still don't understand how "also/too" implies "especially". If you could clarify this, it would be awesome.

中でも is in the dictionary, so I guess I can take it as it is... (my の中でも is the same as 多くのものの中で、特に, right?).
There is still something that I find weird. Is there any difference between ユニットの中でも特に花形 and ユニットの中で特に花形? Because, it would be like adding the meaning of 特に twice, in the first example.

Thank you for helping me with the other ones as well.

ユニットの中で特に is talking about just in the unit, ユニットの中でも特に can expand the target area outside of the unit.

Thank you! I have thought about it a bit more and I think I can also understand why this has a nuance of "especially".

So yeah, thank you very much!
