By the way,are they going to contact you about the test day,hour and all that stuff? For example my folder with all the documents was accepted,actually taken bt he embassy,Is it for sure that I am going to participate at the exam? Or I still need to recieve a confirmation?:p

If your folder was accepted, you will receive a confirmation (by phone or by email) with the test day and hour. It took a week in my case to receive all these informations.

Wait till your interview ends and they tell you to wait a month for the results of the interview.
And then when they submit the documents to MEXT, you'll be waiting until December (earliest).
The waiting game only gets longer. :)
 
Geee..anyway,first I have to get past those exams...with a lot of points...Usually the minimum requirments how much might they be?
 
Any news from MEXT Pakistan.

Japan embassy in Pakistan has declared that successful candidates will be contacted during the last week of July.

and then it says also that the test will be in English.

I didnt got the call....saw it on embassy site!! Mine was 21st june.

I didn't know about the MEXT program until the date for applying had already passed, so I am currently enrolled in a university in my home country. Is it unheard of for a student already enrolled in a university to apply for this scholarship, and can college credits be transferred between an American college and a Japanese one?
Furthermore, is it possible for a college of technology student to arrive in Japan in October, as opposed to arriving in April (by that time I would almost be finished with my sophomore year of college). Looking at the chart on this page, in column 2, it looks like I wouldn't know if I was accepted until I was already over half way through my sophomore year, as opposed to the first column, in which I would know before my sophomore year has even started. If that were possible it would make things a lot easier, since I wouldn't have to pay for a second year of college in my home country (or at least not the second semester of the second year).
 
it was on 21st june but the japanese embassy website states that it would contact the successful candidates by end of july.

so it's a long way off..!!! from here.

I'm not sure about the requirements, but the average points 2 years ago where around: 75 for English, 42 for math, and Japanese was 46 for the human sciences group, and 17 for the natural sciences group. This is only Hungary of course, but I'd imagine it's similiar everywhere :)

You want to apply for the undergraduate, right? I'm doing the first prep year now, but I'm officially still a student of the university I went to back home - at least until september when I automatically "drop out". It was easier this way...
The "normal" way to apply is the one that starts in April. It says you will be notified around february, but that depends - this year, most of us got "the call" in december. The one that would start in October, I'm not sure what it exactly is - it's probably not for undergraduate students.

Thanks for the quick reply, Gee. I'm going for the college of technology (for all intents and purposes the same as undergraduate, but MEXT gave it its own section *shrugs*). Glad to see I'm not the only one in a university in their own country first. I'll scour the internet some more to figure out how the timeline will work. Are you able to transfer the credit you earned while you were at the university in your home country to the one you're going to be going to in Japan?
 
Truth is, I applied as soon as I could, i.e. in the last year of high school, so when I get the news that I got the scholarship, it was right during exam period - so after that I didn't care at all and basically left the university and looked for work; I don't really have any credits to transfer. I'm afraid I can't really help with that :( I will try asking some people/teachers here.
 
Hey everyone I posted this elsewhere (wrong thread) earlier today so trying again here ;)
I was wondering, is there any place where I can find how many scholarships are giving per country?
I'm applying for a post-grad MEXT grant from the Netherlands. I am doing the Japanese and English exams and my interview this Thursday. I've been trying the old exams but the difficulty seems to differ quite a lot! Any hints on the difficulty of this year's Japanese exam? Also, does anyone have the exams from 2011 and 2012?

@Baska88: I was looking for the same information and I didn't find them. I think each embassy gives an average number of the scholarships given in their country on their website but then, it's a surprise ! But maybe you can call your embassy. And, about the 2011 and 2012 exams, unfortunately, they are not on the internet.

Also another thing I was wondering: How long should the research proposal be? I'm quite worried since I only wrote about 1 page (in Japanese)...I was in the process of writing my MA thesis at the time and didn't have much time for any actual research yet. Do you guys think it'll be ok?
 
You have been preselected so I think it's ok. But you may be asked to deepen your research proposal during the interview.
 
Hey Everyone.

This is awkward, i think I'm the only Jamaican here. Anyway, I applied and got confirmation that I've been selected to sit the embassy exams. Application deadline in my country is the 21st of June and I got confirmation on the First of July, correct me if I'm wrong, I think this is because my folder was sent from the other side of the island the morning on the day of the deadline; but my exams are on the 8th of July, are exams usually such a rushed process? :? :eek:

I don't have any syllabus on which topics are being tested nor do I have much knowledge of the Japanese Language (I'm doing a crash course on hiragana right now). In Jamaica we would say "Dawg nyam yuh suppa." meaning I'm in a hopeless state lol. Are there any guides which aid applicants on what to prepare for? My search for this was hopeless.

Also I think I'll be attending university in my region because I'm not certain if I can take this cake. I don't see any breach in the MEXT conditions but is it okay to do this? :(
