MEXT Scholarship 2014

I passed my exams this morning (for Undergraduate and Research Students). To my mind, English is quite easy. Regarding the Japanese test... as I don't speak/read Japanese, I put randomly the answers lol (but I study Sciences so I don't need to speak Japanese). Next week, I have my interview.

Hey everyone! Congrats on making it this far! I can't believe some people have already had interviews!
I'm on my way to my exams at the moment. I find it kinda funny that I have to take the English exam, since its my first language and all!
I was feeling pretty chill about the Japanese exam too, but then I read an earlier post where someone said we had to write kanji. Gahhh, kanji writing is what I'm worst at! I wish I'd checked this thread before the my exam...
Anyways, good luck for the rest of the process!
 
Who are given mathA and MathB? A bit confused here. The syllabi is different I heard. Undergrad.
 
Math A for Social Studies and Humanities, and Math B for everything else that has Science subjects.
Although in other countries it might be different, this should be the usual case.
 
For those who already done the under math tests, do you guys have any tips for us 😄?

how was the test? what kind of problems was given?
 
Hey Julie congrats!!!!!! How were the science papers? Did they resemble those of '10 '09 '08? Or was it simpler? A heads up would help , I'm really scared to face this cause I feel so under prepared.
 
@Hakkaifan : The English exam looks like those of 2008/2009, but not 2010. The texts comprehension is very simple. To my mind, the most difficult exercice is the third one in which you have to find the wrong sentences. Keep on training with the old exams, it helps a lot !

I am Daniyal from Pakistan. I have good academic record and work experience of three and a half years in banking and finance. I have worked as treasuries dealer and been involved with managing the investments of a large bank. I have 88% marks in my MBA from Pakistan. I have applied for MEXT this year with limited knowledge.

I want to know about following things about MEXT :

- Does academic record matter? I have 88 percent marks in my MBA
- What should be the research topic? I have chosen Quantitative easing, I have a background in MBA and treasuries experience - I wanted to know more about these areas.
- Finally, In Pakistan the last day for submission of application was 21 june, when should I receive the call for interview?

@Hakkaifan: As a research student in Sciences, I only took the English exam (and the Japanese one even if I don't speak Japanese. It was compulsory).

I have applied for MEXT - should I learn Japanese or not? is it important to know Japanese or you can get through even without knowing Japanese.

@ MSF, how many people apply for MEXT in Pakistan and how many of them are awarded with scholarships.
 
@daniyal: Hello. It depends on your field. If you are in Sciences, it is not so important to know Japanese (but if you do, it's better). If you are chosen for this scholarship, you will have a six-month period to learn Japanese.

It's not my field of study but I think your research proposal is very good. You have explained the situation and what you would like to do, you have put some references, a schedule and figures. I did the same so, for me, you may be pre-selected next year :)

I have a good academic record, above 80 % throughout. My final degree was an MBA 3.88 / 4.00 CGPA. Seven distinctions.

Also, I have work experience of three and a half years as a treasuries dealer.

My next question is does Academics and Work Experience matter?
 
Yes, it matters. MEXT wants to invest in the best students (it is safer). But I think motivation is more important. Students with not so good academic record may be really motivated and if they have an excellent project and convince the jury, they can have the scholarship. But with your academic record and your project, I think you have a good chance to be chosen.

Japanese Embassy in Pakistan says that they will contact successful candidates by last week of july.

What is the process after this....

I mean what are the tests, interviews and how do they contact successful candidates?

The tests will be based on their EJU syllabus for the undergraduate applicants (I have no idea for postgraduates), and most of the interview questions will be pertaining to your ability to survive on your own plus talking about your research plan, its viability, what plans do you have, whether you've contacted a professor yet or not, that kind of stuff.

Most embassies will contact both by phone and e-mail.
