Hello everyone!

I am currently making a thesis regarding women empowerment and the declining birthrate of Japan. Can you guys help me out in answering the survey? Thank you!

Here is the link:
Women empowerment

Finished, although I am not female...

Could you share us your thoughts about both of the topics. I am sure you will have more people doing the survey after they heard your opinion as well.

Terms like "female empowerment" make me cringe. Not because I want to keep women down, but because it assumes that women in traditional roles have no power and no worth, and that is a giant steaming load of bull.

I have seen plenty of homemakers/housewives who were the REAL head of the family, and they made things happen. They called plenty of shots. They held families together. They created stability in their little parts of the world, altogether, made society stable.

Whether career woman, female CEO, female factory worker or homemaker/housewife, they all have power and worth to the same degree as men, if they really want it. But it just so happens that most females don't really want it, and that's fine. The 70 percent or so females who tend to more traditional roles should roll with that, and feel valuable and proud. And the 30 percent who want to be in politics or become captains of industry should not feel any hindrance just for being female.

But I despise these neo-feminist and frankly feminazi attempts to turn the majority of women into something they don't really want to be or don't have the proper skill sets or mind set for. I don't deny there is a glass ceiling, but its not just men keeping women down. Its also just the fact of being female with a female mindset that keeps women down.

It has to be accepted that different women are different and they need to be treated as such, and respected for their skills and how they apply them, and not have people try to pigeon-hole them in a way that makes it seem they are all the same. That said, the majority seem to be designed for traditional roles. Its sad the minority who aren't have gained so much influence as to dissuade the majority from the roles that would be most fulfilling for them.

I firmly believe that most women would love to be housewives and mothers. But modern education tries to steer them away from that, making they themselves think they actually would not like to be mothers and housewives at all. Of course women should be allowed to branch out, but brainwashing them against traditional roles and all the truly feminine power that comes with it is silly, wrong-headed and short-sighted. And it plays a role in declining birthrates in so called "first world" societies, although there are other factors.

But...I do agree status of women in Japan is lower than other countries.
Or maybe Japanese women desire more to become housewives than other countries...hmmm....

I had to readjust my notion of "strong women" when I came here. I met a lot of very intelligent housewives who took their role seriously. Compared to Canada, where all the "strong women" were going after a career, and the housewives I knew were... well, banal.

Roles in Japan are different than what I grew up with. It still sucks to be stuck with a role based on gender. A female lawyer friend here absolutely loathes the Japanese standard, and I can understand why. All the same, I grew to have a much better respect for housewives since I came here, mostly because I met so many respectable housewives. (at the same time, they were all over 30, and I don't know I feel the way about the 20-something housewives I encounter)

What does "lower" mean?

All considered, I see women treated very well, even in relation to other countries. It may be said they tend to receivd lower salaries, which I think is bull. But that is only one thing.

That said, women also have more of a tendency than men to be loyal to company beyond reason, and not quit for better salaries or ask for more money at interviews and that is the same everywhere.

Its hard to compare. I am sure Japan is not so alone in that. Why WOULDN'T a woman want to be a housewife?? Seems to me that its a minority of females who hate the idea getting all the press in some countries.
