明日 = あす or あした

Hey, guys.

I use あした for 明日 but the dictionary says that it can be spelled as あす. Which one should I use?

There's any difference, I mean, one is polite, other is not?

I may be wrong, but in example sentences I've seen, asu is more polite and ashita is more casual. I may be wrong though.

I thought the smaller the word, the more "impolite" it would be.

nope, not necessarily true.

In common usage, "ashita" will be more common, but both are correct. In the Ulfuls song 明日がある, the lyrics go "明日(あした)がある、さ明日(あす)がある," using both readings in the same breath.
