I'm practicing right now by translating phrases from a beginner Japanese textbook (ASSIMIL) and I'm trying to remember all the kanji compounds, but I'm confused because the textbook gives us tea cup as 茶碗 and keeps using it in this form.
My issue is that it's a pretty common word and 碗 is not in the joyo kanji but the textbook teaches it as if it were. On the internet I see it written both as 茶碗 and 茶わん, I and the impression I'm having is that if I write it 茶碗 I'm only going to look like a pedant or something and that 茶わん is the right way. Any advice?
