English-to-Japanese Dictionaries Suck!

I hardly know any Japanese and I am slowly working on learning the language, however I always find it easier to make cool sounding names by using a Japanese word (written in romaji).

I am trying to translate the current phrase "Dark Fantasies" into Japanese...with what little I know I am getting 濃夢幻. However I am not sure if it is correct or not. English to Japanese Dictionaries really do suck.

I was wanting something along the line of... Dark as in twisted, evil, not normal along with Fantasies as in something like Dreams, Wishes, etc.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

No this isn't for a tattoo and I did try online translations, what I was wanting was someone to double check me. I don't need to google what I already googled.

濃夢幻 sounds like "dense/thick/heavy illusion." In Japanese, "dark fantasy" is generally translated as ダーク・ファンタジー; "daaku fantajii" or the simple transcription of the English word.

Umm dictionaries aren't meant to be used as translators. How could you honestly expect a dictionary to have a "dark fantasies" entry?

I suggest you learn how to actually use the language in a practical sense before figuring out how to translate "cool sounding names" that most likely don't translate very well and probably sound totally silly to Japanese people.

You mean "Dark Fantasies" doesn't sound totally silly to English speakers? (It does to this one).

It's always harder to translate from your native language into L2 than it is to go from L2 to your native language. 暗 might be better for dark than 濃 in this case. Or maybe even 闇. Fantasies I'm not too sure about.. maybe just dream 夢 is good.

It doesn't sound silly to me, but it DOES sound like something you need to pay extra for downtown....

"Dark Fantasy" is a kind of genre of films. As Toritobe already pointed out, the Japanese word for it is ダーク・ファンタジー.

One useful tip for translating things like this is to look them up in Wikipedia, then flip to the Japanese equivalent to find what it's called. It doesn't always work, but in this case it does:

Yeah, "Dark Fantasy" in the US is generally considered a sub-set (if not an outright euphemism) of "horror" films and books.
