I'm glad you are talking to your family about this. It tends to be a fairly serious problem. While not part of the actual course plan, this is usually taught on the side usually starting 5th grade or so.

Okay, I called my daughter in, explained to her what's going on in the thread, and asked her if they have some special lessons on the side regarding this.

She got as good a laugh out of it as her mother and I did.

I'm basing my assertion that this is complete horsefeathers on the word of a woman who went through the public school system close to 40 years ago and a young lady who is going through it today, currently being in the first year of junior high school. According to you, she should have had these special lessons at least a couple of years ago. Also basing it on having observed countless thousands of Japanese females of all ages since before you were out of diapers....and not once seeing any indication of the results of any such ostensibly universal education.

I agree completely. I thought Emoni was being sarcastic with that post, but now I wonder.

I, too, wonder what Emoni is basing these statements on, because if he has spent and real time in Japan, he would know that they are untrue.

I had one girlfriend who was anorexic. Only one, and she did not binge and purge. One thing I learned at the time is that the whole idea of "binge and purge" is hugely overblown. My ex-girlfriend didn't eat in the first place, so there was nothing to purge.

Make-up? Sure some people wear a lot of make-up, but no one that I know or have ever known. Certainly no more than any of the Americans that I have ever known.

I never said your daughter was a *****, don't state that I did. I think I clarified it quite clearly that I was talking about home ec activities. I'd never treat you or a family member (that I don't even know) like that and I think you even know that Mike. You were the one who made this jump to find a way to be offended, and I made it clear that this is absolutely incorrect. However, if you want to make the leap that I was serious that all women are involved in some crazy plot to control the men of Japan and take over the world like I posted, include your daughter in that statement along with baby girl fetus just to be sure that all women are included... go for it.

To make this out to be a serious topic, that extreme responsibility and care must be taken, and that now it is insulting in EVERY WAY IMAGINABLE is one heck of a stretch. Well, Emoni, I am sure many of us have made postings with sarcastic remarks in jest or to make a point. If that was your intention with your first response to the OP, I really don't think you should have kept going with the shtick in your second, third and fourth.

As Mike has pointed out, there might be people who would take your "joke" seriously. As a matter of fact, someone went so far as asking his parents and an elderly friend about infanticide! If I were you, I would be worried that people, upon reading the posts leading up to one where I finally say "Hey, I was just being silly", would think of me as something I am not.

Anyway, at least so far, one person has had fun, others have scratched their heads and the OP is nowhere to be found so I think it is OK for me to close this thread.
