Song to put our babies to sleep

Why do we sing "Rock a bye baby" to lull our little ones to sleep when the song is about putting your baby in a tree and letting the wind crash the cradle to the ground?☝

my co-worker uses his squeezebox and the sounds it comes with. He keeps say " play the wa wa" lol.....

But, for my brothers i wouldn't sing or anything. They would just sleep.

So, i don't know why people sang a song.

Indeed, with all those songs for little ones about gruesome events is it any wonder us adults can be so complex?!

The ones I remember most from my childhood include : farmers' wives chasing mice around so as to mutilate them with big knives; an anthropomorphic egg who fell of a wall and was smashed to smithereens; two innocent kids who went to fetch water - one cracked his head open, the other suffered a nasty fall too; and a girl who tried to make some tea, only to have her good intentions frustrated, so that in the end no-one had a drink of any sort.

Life sure can be hard at times!!

I always thought Ring-Around-The-Rosie was really creepy.

But just look at any of the Brothers Grimm's stories, the original Cinderella was gruesome, what with body parts being cut off and everything.

the best methode is still telling a sutori even if the child is a baby.
a baby listens to the voice, people still think if they sing the baby will sleep on the rythme of the song, wrong, they sleep because of the softeness of the voice.

Yes, I agree! There aren't very many children's stories that don't involve violence - The Three Little Pigs where a wolf is blowing their houses down, Little Red Riding Hood who thinks she's seeing her grandmother and it's really a wolf that wants to eat her .... And the cartoons for children! Just as bad if not worse. No wonder there's so much violence in the world.
