Who is doing the labor in japan?

Hi again all. I know that japan has its own people do labor specially in the country side but i've also heard that most japanese people graduate from at least highschool and i guess just like in USA they wouldn't want to do labor. In california for example mexicans and south americans are the ones picking fruit and vegtables in the field, and doing gardening. my father is a gardener and he also did field picking in his youth.

So since many japanese go into hightech or office jobs, who is doing the labor? I hear also that japan doesn't accept many immigrants, so i don't know how that would work.

Anyways, does japan have enough japanese willing to do labor, or do they allow people from other asian countries to come and do those jobs?

There is a semi-legal group of foreigners who do factory work and the sort as it pays better in Japan than over seas, but the Japanese still do a majority of the farming and manual labour.

Read your own post and you'll arrive at the logical conclusion that the Japanese do the vast bulk of their labor themselves. The grunt jobs are largely filled by either high school graduates or by people who didn't bother to go to high school (which isn't compulsory).

The "hightech and office jobs" are highly contested and are limited in number, its not unusual for somebody to apply for dozens of positions, sit dozens of exams and interviews and have to work somewhere outside of their field and specialisation.

People who work whilst at college ect need money so in their spare time they probably do that sort of job. It happens all over the world and Japan is not THAT different... I guess it's done by students, poor people who need money fast or those who didn't go to high school...

In Japan a "Bussiness" man can work on a factory floor.

Its not so much the job you do, rather where or who you do it with.

A factory job with a big well known company will be better and more respected then the same job with a un-known small company.

As I understand it, the progression went from Aunts, Grandmothers, mothers, working mostly in the fields, & older men in the factories... For a time period afterwards, many youth didn't work factory jobs and these were filled by immigrant labour...

After the 1990's there was an initiative to provide ethnic Japanese with the types of jobs the immigrants (illegal or otherwise) were filling... Though there is still a market for immigrant labour, and also, some form a trafficking in that area for illegal labour and prostitution.
